Newlyweds Shoplift Food For Reception, Spend Honeymoon In Jail

In these tough times, lots of engaged couples look for ways to trim the cost of their wedding reception. Here is one we most certainly do not recommend: shoplifting more than $1,000 in food from Wegmans.

A Pennsylvania couple was arrested last week after they apparently opted to spend the downtime between their wedding and the reception pilfering $1,046 in food for the party from their local Wegmans grocery store.

From the Centre Daily Times:

They watched the couple on surveillance cameras put items in their shopping cart, and walk out to their car without paying, according to an affidavit filed by police. Police then arrested [the couple], who told them the items were intended for their reception.

If the reception ever happened, it went on without food and without the happy couple, who were charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property.
