More Chrysler Workers Suspended For Drinking During Work Hours

For the second time in less than a year, workers on Chrysler manufacturing lines have been caught on camera — and subsequently suspended for — drinking (and possibly smoking a controlled substance) during work hours.

Detroit’s WJBK TV filmed employees of the Trenton Engine Plant in Michigan appearing to violate company policy by imbibing alcohol during their lunch hours. While the men were not on plant property when enjoying their early afternoon buzz, they were in a nearby parking lot that WJBK claims belongs to the local United Auto Workers union hall.

After seeing the video on the news last week, Chrysler says it was able to identify nine employees appearing in the footage:

To date, all nine employees have been suspended indefinitely without pay pending further investigation. While the evidence seems conclusive, the Company needs to act in accordance with corporate policy and the terms of the collective bargaining agreement before further action is taken. The investigation is ongoing.

The WJBK investigation came about after some employees at the Trenton plant contacted the station to express concern, saying they didn’t want to work alongside people who had been “partying” during work hours.

Last fall, the station busted workers at Chrysler’s Jefferson North Plant in Detroit for similar violations.
