Comcast Denies Man Internet For A Year For Breaking Data Cap

There’s been a lot of ballyhoo about ISPs setting caps on how much data you can use, but here’s a story from a guy who actually broke the cap. And now Comcast has shut off his internet for a year as punishment.

Comcast has a 250 GB monthly bandwidth cap. If you go over it, they reserve the right to fire you as a customer.

But this guy Andre tried to upload a huuuuuuge amount of his music collection to Amazon’s new “Storage Cloud” service that lets you upload an unlimited amount of M4As and AAC files. All he wanted to be able to jam to his tunes on the road. Combined with the terabyte of storage in his basement he kept backed up on Carbonite, and the scales were tipped.

He knew about the 250 GB cap, but thought it was just for downloads. Turns out, it’s not. It’s uploads and downloads combined. Whoops. I’m sure Andre’s other roommates, who he says along with him, stream Netflix in HD and Pandora “incessantly”, aren’t too thrilled with their bro right now.

What would you do if you couldn’t have any internet in your house for a year? Move? Sound off in the comments.
