Plumber: Don't Flush Anything Other Than Toilet Paper

Back in 1999, my roommates and I ran out of toilet paper and thought we’d get inventive by using paper towels instead. A flooded bathroom and ensuing visit from the plumber taught us that this was the wrong course of action, because paper towels don’t break down and tend to clog up pipes. Live and learn.

According to a post on About.com by a licensed plumber, toilet paper is just about the only paper product you can flush without fear of clogging your pipes. Baby wipes, facial tissue and napkins are also out.

What have you unsuccessfully tried to flush away?
