DOT & Disney Team Up To Fight Distracted Driving, Promote New Movie

The Department of Transportation’s campaign against distracted driving is becoming animated. Literally.

The feds have teamed with Disney and Pixar to create a public service announcement featuring Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and the characters of Cars 2, which — in what is surely a coincidence — is due to hit movie theaters on June 24.

The 30-second PSA, called “Only the bad guys drive distracted,” advises viewers: “No calling, no texting. Nothing that can take away your focus.”

This isn’t the first time the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has worked with Disney on various safety campaigns. The last time was in 2005 for the re-release of the Cinderella movie to help remind parents to fit their children snugly in a booster seat. According to the DOT blog:

We really value having partners like Disney and Pixar involved in our safety mission, especially when it comes to instilling safe driving behavior among young people from an early age.
