Breach: Citi Says Hackers Stole Hundreds Of Thousands Of Credit Cards

Roughly 200,000 Citi customers’ credit cards were stolen by hackers in a breach the bank just announced today. The data included names, credit card numbers, mailing addresses and email addresses.

The bank stressed that info like “social security number, date of birth, card expiration date and card security code were not compromised.” Citi said they would be contacting affected customers and is putting procedures in place to prevent the attack from recurring.

Dealbook quoted a hacker source who said that Citi’s 128-bit security on their website “is “really not that big a deal” and could be gotten around in a week or so if you found a good weakness to exploit.
