People Buying Even Fewer DVDs Than Before

Poor DVDs, sitting on store shelves with dwindling hope passers-by will make loving homes for them. According to a report from a research firm, both sales numbers and revenue have dropped more than 43 percent last year from 2009.

Deadline cites figures from SNL Kagan that say 226 million discs were sold last year, generating $4.47 billion. The numbers would have likely been even more dismal if not for Avatar, which helped Fox narrowly edge out rivals Warner and Disney.

The study didn’t take Blu-ray or digital rentals into account, but the Digital Entertainment Group reports total home video spending slumped 3.1 percent from the previous year.

If you spent less money on home entertainment last year than you did the previous year, how did you cut your costs?
