Rappers Sue CBS Interactive, Alleging It Profited From Music Piracy

A lawsuit led by rap artists alleges CBS Interactive, the parent company of CNET, aided copyright infringement by promoting and profiting on downloads of file-sharing service LimeWire.

Wired reports the suit alleges CBS profited from 220 million downloads of LimeWire on CNET’s download.com since 2008. The alleged profits came from ads on LimeWire download screens. The suit also says CNET provided how-to videos and articles that helped users locate copyrighted material to download.

According to its statement, CBS isn’t sweating the lawsuit, writing it’s “riddled with inaccuracies, and we are confident that we will prevail.”
