Sony: We Waited A Day, Not A Week, To Tell Gamers Hacker May Have Swiped Their Info

Sony ignited a firestorm Tuesday when it revealed that its week-long-and-counting PlayStation Network outage was caused by one or more hackers who may have swiped users’ personal information, including credit card numbers.

The announcement made it seem as though Sony knew for a week that the data may have been exposed, and just sat on the information until Tuesday. On a PlayStation Blog post, Sony clarifies that it sat on the info for a day and not a week.

From the post:

It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.

It’s frightening that it took Sony so long to discover there was a breach. Does the company’s claim that it waited one day instead of a week to share the info change the way you feel about the bungled situation?
