Lawsuit: Benjamin Moore's Odorless Paint Actually Quite Stinky

Benjamin Moore’s Natura paint is billed as an eco-friendly, odorless paint with no volatile organic compounds that doesn’t stink up your house while it dries. Some consumers love it, and some don’t. Bu some consumers really don’t like it, and one woman has initiated a class-action suit claiming that Natura wouldn’t dry and stunk up her house so badly that she couldn’t stay in her home.

The suit says that paint from some early batches should have been recalled, but that’s not what Benjamin Moore chose to do. The lawyers explained in their press release:

Despite knowing about the odor and drying problems, the suit alleges that Benjamin Moore failed to inform consumers or conduct a product recall. Instead, in July 2010, the company issued a “Product Replacement” notice to retailers that failed to identify any of the specific problems with the paint. The notice to retailers stated only that Benjamin Moore had changed the paint “to improve performance,” and offered stores “an opportunity to replace your older stock with new.”
