Cause for more worry in Japan, as the latest news about the damaged nuclear reactor isn’t good — traces of radioactive iodine have been detected in Tokyo tap water, officials said Saturday. Radation was also detected at spinach and milk farms near the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex.

The New York Daily News cites government workers who say the tainted water was found in Tokyo and five other prefectures, but so far the levels detected are not above accepted safety levels.

However, the affected food was found as far as 65 miles away from the damaged plant, which could mean the area contaminated by the plant might be much wider than they thought.

The nuclear complex and Fukushima was damaged during the March 11 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that has ravaged much of Japan.

In a bit of positive news, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said conditions at reactor Nos. 1, 2 and 3 had “stabilized.”
