Walgreens Does Some Online Shopping, Picks Up Drugstore.com For $429 Million

After taking over New York City with its purchase of Duane Reade drugstores last year, Walgreens has made a move to dominate the online market with its plan to buy Drugstore.com for around $429 million.

The deal will include Drugstore.com’s sibling sites Beauty.com and SkinStore.com. According to Fox Business, the merger will add around 60,000 products to what Walgreens already sells online. The company will also inherit around 3 million customers.

The CEO of Walgreens said the sale will make his company the most “convenient choice for health and daily living needs whether customers shop online” or in stores.

The deal, which still requires Drugstore.com shareholder approval, is expected to close in June.
