Del Monte Recalls Cantaloupes For Possible Salmonella Contamination

Watch out for Del Monte cantaloupes — the Coral Gables, Fla. company has issued a recall with the help of the FDA of 4,992 cartons, each containing four sleeves of their three-pack of cantaloupes, as they may possibly be contaminated with Salmonella Panama.

The affected cantaloupes were distributed through warehouse clubs in Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, according to the press release.

Here’s what to look for, if you live in those states: Beige plastic mesh sleeves containing three cantaloupes in each, with the Del Monte logo and indication “3 count, Product of Guatemala.” They were available for sale between March 10 and March 21 this year.

The cantaloupes have a light brown skin color and inside, that usually tasty orange flesh. In case you bought an entire carton, the recalled ones are dark brown cardboard with the Del Monte logo in red lettering and “cantaloupes” in yellow lettering on a green background. The cantaloupes have the lot codes: 02-15-24-10, 02-15-25-10, 02-15-26-10 and 02-15-28-10.

There have been a reported outbreak of 12 cases of salmonella thought to be related to the cantaloupes.
