Lawsuit: GameStop Collects & Stores Customer Info

A class action lawsuit filed in California accuses GameStop of collecting and storing customers’ data, violating state law in the process.

IGN reports the woman who filed the lawsuit said GameStop collected her name, credit card number and personal identification information (PII) after she made a purchase. California law forbids corporations from making credit card users provide their PII. She theorizes GameStop uses the info to collect additional info about customers, including home addresses. She’s trying to get California GameStops to stop the practice.

GameStop would not comment to IGN because the litigation is pending.
