Is This A Macy's Ad, Or A Math Test?

We love to make fun of the asterisk-riddled coupons available at Macy*s, but reader JB sent in an ad that takes confusing sales to an entirely new level.

As many times as I read it, I still don’t understand what “save 60% when you take an extra 20% off” means. But it gets worse exclaiming “plus, all fine jewelry 30% – 50% off, plus an extra 10% off selections.” Huh? What happened to the 60%? What’s up with all that “extra” language, too?

I don’t know, JB. My head started hurting when I saw the word “all” with two asterisks.
