Starbucks Recommends iPhone App Users Enable Password Lock

Reached for comment about concerns that people could steal your Starbucks Reward card by taking a screenshot of it as it appears on the iPhone app, a Starbucks spokesperson told Consumerist, “We definitely want our customers to have a good experience with mobile payment. We take security seriously.” They also recommended customers take additional safety measures and offered a solution for anyone who had their card stolen.

“To increase security, customers are encouraged to password protect their iPhone and BlackBerry®. Additionally, we offer balance protection for registered customers,” the Starbucks spokesperson told Consumerist via email. “If their smartphone with Starbucks Card Mobile app or Starbucks Card is lost or stolen, they can visit http://www.starbucks.com/card and log into the account, then click on the Report Lost / Stolen tab. Or, call 1-800-STARBUC (782-7282) and report the loss. We’ll freeze the remaining balance at the time the Card is reported as lost or stolen, transfer it to a new Starbucks Card, and mail a replacement Card immediately – without hassles or fees.”
