Annoyed that its caffeine-dispensing rival Starbucks turned heads by announcing the 31-ounce trenta, Dunkin’ Donuts had a PR rep send a blunt request for acknowledgment:
Hi Phil, I work on behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts, and noticed you covered the Trenta story. Did you know Dunkin’ Donuts is the number one retailer of iced coffee in America, and serves 285 million cups of iced coffee per year? Also, Dunkin’ Donuts offers a 32 ounce version of its iced coffee, which is simply called a “large”…”medium” (24oz) and “small” (16 oz) versions are also available at all Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.
Still, it’s doubltess that the trenta will be known as the massive drink that coffee drinkers refer to most often, because giving your products pretentious names and prime number ounce amounts get you better mileage when it comes to publicity.
