Apple Switching To New Kind Of Screw So You Can't Open Your iPhone

Apple has started to use a new kind of 5-pointed screw that no one has a screwdriver for except Apple.

The “pentalobular” screws are going into new iPhones and some laptops, making it harder, if not impossible, for owners to get into the guts of the gadgets they ostensibly own. Better yet, according to one report, when you take in an old iPhone to the Genius Bar, they will replace the Philips screws with its new 5-point screws.

iFixit has the details, including info on the driver bit that will remove the screw but doesn’t exactly fit. They also explain the various screws used on different parts of Apple products and the screwdrivers necessary for opening them.
