Those daily vitamin supplements may not be doing as much good as you think, and may in fact harm you. A committee of medical experts from the Institute of Medicine released a report that says excessive amounts of calcium and vitamin D aren’t helpful.
The committee, which the New York Times reports was applauded by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, found most people get enough calcium from their diets, the exception being teenage girls. Older women who take too much calcium increase the risk of kidney stones. And some doctors have said vitamin D can increase your chances of suffering heart disease, autoimmune diseases and other maladies.
