After a crash test commissioned by our test-happy kin at Consumer Reports on the Evenflo Maestro Combination Booster Seat showed the product could experience a failure that could lead to severe injury for a child passenger, the company has announced a voluntary recall.
As shown in the below video, a crash may cause a crack in the seat that adds unwanted slack to the seat’s harness. The inadequate restraints would then permit the child to be thrown around in the seat, possibly hitting their head.
The recall is for Evenflo Maestro Combination Booster Seats with model numbers beginning with “310″ and built between Nov. 24, 2009 and April 9, 2010.
Owners of these seats should stop using them immediately and contact Evenflo — 1-800-233-5921 — for details on how to receive a repair kit with instructions.

Nice to see a boringly relevent Consumerist article once in a while.
Someone did independent testing and found a problem.
Company issued voluntary recall.
And all is right with the world. No hassles.
Though it does raise a question as to the testing conducted by the company before products are released.
I guess this is what happens when a tampon manufacturer gets into the car seat market…

Is it just me, or has there EVER been a car seat / crib / stroller that hasn’t been recalled at some point?
I hate when car seats are recalled. Makes me paranoid about my kid’s safety.
I would have a really hard time trusting a DIY repair on my child’s safety seat. I would want a refund on the whole damn thing.
I bet the fix is a big metal washer.
Company should have caught this in their own testing.
