Wow Laura has been busy this morning! Did everyone else get the day off?

    Glad it’s Friday!

  2. Oranges w/ Cheese says:

Soo glad it’s Friday! I just wanted to curl up this morning and go back to sleep.

We’re going to see about possibly going on a roadtrip this weekend, maybe to a national park or Holland, which is all lighthouses and windmills and Dutch immigrant history. Before the weather gets too crappy!

    • pop top says:

I love Holland! It’s so gorgeous there and the beach is incredible. Too bad it’s too cold to swim. You’ll love the downtown, and the farmer’s market there is great too. Definitely go to DeZwaan Windmill Island if you get the chance, it’s awesome. I’m very jealous. :p

Oh and my VERY FIRST EVER Bag of Crap from woot should be arriving next week and I’m EXCITED!!!

I brought a boring sandwich to work, but I’ve been so stressed out this morning (I had a huge pile of work waiting for me) that I need to take a break. It’s as good as an excuse as any to get a treat for lunch.

    • Kimaroo - 100% Pure Natural Kitteh says:

I hope you enjoy your lunch! I brought a boring sandwich to work too…and I just ate it.

Oh well.. such is life. I did have a really nice lunch yesterday. My dad took me to eat at a really super fancy stakehouse we have here called The Taste of Texas. I had the saladbar and it is aaammmaaazziinnngg. I love it. They have bread and the most tasty cheese and really I could just eat a whole meal of that and be happy about it. Hehe.

      • pecan 3.14159265 says:

Thanks. I ate my delicious sandwich, and now I’m sleepy. So much for getting some fuel for the work I have to continue doing!

  5. Murph1908 says:

Can someone at Consumerist email Burger King and let them know they are likely to be a contender in the Worst Ad in America contest?

Those new breakfast commercials where they “sing” to the military march tunes make me want to put a bullet in my head.

I’m getting ready to shoot myself over some doll commercial. I like to watch SpongeBob in the morning instead of the news, and this damn doll thing is a terrible sound virus. It sticks in my head so bad it makes me want to scream!!!

    • Taliskan says:

Yes. Totally agree with you. I can tell BK what to do with that flute…

    Busy day…

I wish I got Columbus Day off. Mah honey does and even if we can’t fly out to see each other at least we would be able to talk. I think maybe I’ll find a way to sneak conversation with him as I’m working. Bosses so scared I’m going to quit they’re giving me the freaking world. I don’t trust it at all. The extra they promised me is going into a savings fund and I’m going to pretend I don’t even have it. It’s about time I started saving something.

Since I have so many new and old medical bills to pay off, I’ve been trying to cut back as much as I can. I did call DirecTV last night and they are giving me a lesser package for a way cheaper price, and free movies for six months. I’m not under contract so if I can’t manage to keep it, I can ditch. Hopefully that extra will help. Since I live alone and have the TV on a lot, I’m not really ready to get rid of it yet. I lost some channels, but most of them I didn’t watch anyway.

The new price is good for twelve months, so by then I should either be caught up or gone. I actually was thinking about filing for bankruptcy, but I don’t really want to because I want to get out of here someday. It would be too hard to get an apartment elsewhere if I did that, I guess. Better to show that I’m paying stuff off.

    • Kimaroo - 100% Pure Natural Kitteh says:

They’re scared you will quit because you have a long distance relationship or because of something else? If they’re that worried do you think they’d give you Columbus day off anyway?

I hope you can get all of that worked out.. it sounds like a drag : (

      • HogwartsProfessor says:

No, they’re scared I’ll quit because they are so evil that everyone hates them!

I can’t get it off anyway; I don’t have enough vacation time left for the year. At least one day has to be saved for Thanksgiving weekend. We don’t get Black Friday paid.

        • pop top says:

Who do you work for, the Empire? ;)

That sucks about your weekend though. LDRs are a pain in the butt sometimes, but they can be worth it. :)

          • HogwartsProfessor says:

Bwaa ha ha ha ha!!!! The Empire. That is awesome!

I’m going to start talking like Yoda at work and doing stuff like waving my hand and saying “This is not the sample you are looking for.”

    • Rectilinear Propagation says:

I wish we got the day after Thanksgiving off instead of Columbus Day. Nothing happens the day after Thanksgiving anyway.

It happens to be useful to have the day off this year but it’d be more useful if Thanksgiving was just a long weekend.

      • HogwartsProfessor says:

We usually do but it’s not paid. You have to use your vacation time. The last few years we’ve had the option to work if you want. I’m not going to. I’m not going anywhere but I need a break from this place.

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

That’s very cool. I’m going to add that to my list of blogs I read instead of working! :)

Are you in San Fran? Is that the Pyramid building? I LOVE SAN FRAN. Wanna go visit!

  8. pop top says:

Watching Black Dynamite at a friend’s tonight; I love that movie. The big MSU/UM game is tomorrow (Go Green!), so that will be exciting. I think we’ll be going to the local cider mill on Sunday to stock up on cider again, maybe hit the corn maze while we’re there. :)

I also just found out that my aunt is going to rent a car for us for when we visit her in Atlanta in December. I have a lot of experience driving around crazy people (Detroit specifically but Michigan in general…), but I’ve heard Atlanta is a whole new level of crazy driving. Anyone have any survival tips?

  9. Kimaroo - 100% Pure Natural Kitteh says:

    WOOO!

So.. I had my driving evaluation yesterday. I drove a car! Yay! Other than that part being kinda exciting, I’m still disapointed with how this company gets to scam disabled people out of money. To recap: there are only 2 companies in the entire state that do these evaluations, and the evaluation is required if you need any sort of modification equipment installed on your car. This equipment is not something you can just go buy. Anyway.. I get there, and for some reason they still don’t understand that I don’t have insurance and I don’t qualify for the state program that they usually use. I keep reminding them, and the lady says “Oh, so you’re self-pay.. well we’ll try to be as expediant about this as possible.” Then the evaluation starts.. she tests my mental abilities by giving me some worksheets to do.. it’s all incredibly easy.. One of them looked like a typical word-find, but you were only supposed to find all of the Ms on the page. So easy. Then there was a vision test.. and let me remind you that my vision was just tested by the state when they tested me for my Learner’s Permit. Then there was a test on a computer with driving questions and reaction times. I passed that as well.

All of that took me about an hour. They said I was really fast. Yay for me.

Then we start to go out to the car to do the practical driving part of the evaluation and then she says she has to put the hand-control equipment on the car. This takes her about 15 to 20 minutes.. she’s fumbling around and didn’t have all of the parts.. All the while the clock is ticking and I’m paying $140 an hour for this.

Then she finally gets it all installed and she says we’re going to go to a park to let me try the driving. The park is 20 minutes away. She drives us there.. then I try the driving and I do pretty well. I didn’t hit anything and she didn’t even have to use her Teacher break pedal on her side. It really felt like more of a driving lesson than an evaluation.. she taught me how to turn and how to stay in my lane by looking far into the distance.

Then we drive back the 20 minutes again. I figure I’m out about an hour that wasn’t entirely nessisary for me to be “assessed”. They ended up billing me for 3.25 hours which ended up costing me $455.

It still feels like a scam.. and after I paid, the office manager tried to give me a copy of the doctor’s note I had so that I could claim it on my health insurance that I don’t have.

I told her repeatedly that I had no insurance and didn’t qualify for the state program. I wrote it on every page of my paperwork that I emailed them like they asked me to. I told them I was STRICTLY self pay. I have no help. But she still acts as if I have insurance.

    What. The. F.

But atleast it’s done and I can move on to get my equipment installed. These people expect me to go back to them and let them check on my driving progress, but they can just go jump off whatever bridge they can find if they think that is going to happen. The rest is between my dad teaching me and me learning and the DPS testing me when I feel that I’m ready. I shouldn’t need any company to check on me. What does that do for me anyway? Nothing.

These people need to realize that not everyone has health insurance or qualifies for state help. There are people like me that try to pay their own way, and I shouldn’t be screwed for that. I shouldn’t have to pay more just because that’s your standard mode of business to get as much money out of insurance companies or the state as you can.

I’ve never felt more disabled in my life. Seriously.

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

Yay for you! It sucks that it cost so much, though. It does seem if not scammy, at least scummy.

    • pop top says:

Yay for passing but boo for them being jerks. At least you don’t have to deal with them again.

    • Rectilinear Propagation says:

All the while the clock is ticking and I’m paying $140 an hour for this.

That is lame and stupid. I’m sorry they jerked you around but I’m glad you’ll be able to drive now.

      • dragonfire81 says:

Yeah I guarantee that whole nonsense with fumbling to install the equipment and having difficulty installing it was purposeful to extend the session so you’d have to pay more. I’m also not surprised they asked you to come back later for another eval (Repeat business don’t you know?)

  10. dragonfire81 says:

What’s your favourite comfort food? I have several, but the one thing I love more than anything else is Dark Chocolate. Homemade chocolate chip cookies are a close second and I love pancakes and bacon with genuine maple syrup for breakfast when I can. Mmmmmm….time to go have lunch!

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

      All things I love.

I love mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and buttered toast as well. :) Anything buttery and/or cheesy.

    • Kimaroo - 100% Pure Natural Kitteh says:

My most favorite food in the world is Chocolate Mousse. Mmmmmm… but other than that.. Thanksgiving dinner rolls.. and waffles.

      Oh and Pumpkin Pie. OMG.

      • Dustbunny says:

Have you tried the pumpkin-flavored Hershey kisses yet — did I already ask you that on Twitter? Anyhoo, they’re yummy. Coworker brought in an entire bag of them because she thought they were too “pumpkin-y”. I inhaled them all because no one else liked them. I don’t know what’s wrong with these people.

        • cash_da_pibble says:

I have been hiding them from myself in the freezer for this exact reason-
          I will INHALE THEM.
You should also try the Caramel Apple ones, HEAVEN… mmm.

    • pop top says:

My two favorite non-chocolate/candy comfort foods are biscuits and sausage gravy and chicken and dumpling. I LOVE those. Otherwise chocolate cookie dough is tops. :D

So I got a ticket in NYC for parking in a No Standing zone right next to a No Parking zone. People have told me you can’t park in a No Standing Zone, but if that is true, why was there at least two No Parking Zones complete with yellow painted curbs within the No Standing Zone? It’s $95, I’m just upset because it seems they are trying to confuse people, and I don’t think you should require a copy of the statutes or a lawyer to park. Any ideas/opinions?
