The mother-in-law is in town. Yay. :/ On the plus side we’ll be going to a local cider mill for a craft show and some delicious apple cider and donuts.
Still playing the hell out of ME2. Love that damn game.
That sounds AWESOME. I’m really jealous now.. seriously. I love stuffed animals.. and I once tried to go to Build A Bear because I thought it was the coolest idea ever.. but then when I got there it was swarming with kids and I got embarassed and left. : /
We were suppsoed to have a FALL potluck and I brought a pumpkin pie.
But somehow in between yesterday morning when I stopped by to pick up work and this morning when I came in- it turned from Fall to FAJITA.
So we are having tri-tip fajitas with pumpkin pie.
You can send the Pumpkin Pie to me, I will eat the whole thing myself.. I eat it for Breakfast.. it’s awesome.. and as a snack.. and as a dessert… and…. ok I just eat it.
Now I sound like a fatty, but really I’m just a pumpkin addict.
Yes! We were supposed to fly to Arizona that day, but we haven’t bought our tickets so we’re probably going to put off our trip until Sunday just so we can go to the rally. Are you going?
I’m going to check with my husband about his work schedule tonight. It’s a long way for us (8 hrs) but my sister and nephew live in Baltimore so this could be a good excuse to visit. I wish I knew a few more details about it, but I really want to go!
I bring a question to the Consumerist hive mind needing some research:
Has anyone detected the Shrink Ray affecting Dairy Queen cuo sizes? I was there last week, which I do go frequently, and ordered a medium blizzard. The medium seemed just a bit smaller than normal. As I said, I haven’t been there for 4-5 weeks so I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination. I’ve never known the actual ounce sizes so I can’t compare.
I haven’t been to DQ in a while, but I do know that they recently added a smaller sized blizzard you can buy.. I wouldn’t be overly suprised if they changed the other cups while they were at it.. Allthough, usually when they add a smaller size they don’t need to make the other ones smaller too.
Now I want a banana split… thank you very much. lol.
7-11 has been doing this too, if you’ve noticed they removed the oz. sizing from their cups and they’re now small, medium, large. I noticed that the slurpee cups have gotten considerably smaller, as have the double gulps. Granted, they’re horrid for you (the old double gulps were a full gallon of soda) but yeah.
I’m excited about later today.. I’m going to go get my hair cut. Woohoo! I’m hoping for a nice shampoo person this time.. the last two times I went weren’t very nice at all; the time before last the guy was really rough and used cold water.. and the last time the girl obviously had no clue what she was doing and got my shirt all wet. Yuck. I love a nice shampoo.. oh please oh please, I need it after this past few weeks at work.
Also, I got the teeniest, brightest flash light in yesterday.. It’s blue and tiny. The flashlight itself is only about an inch and 1/4 long. http://www.essentialgear.com/store/p/117-eGear-PICO-LED-Zipper-Lite.html it is very nifty indeed. I actually bought it off of Amazon.. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Amazon Prime? No? Well, it’s awesome.
So um… yeah… fun times. This feels like a Rice Cooker Cake weekend.. yes.. I do think I need cake. Question is… German Chocolate with chocolate icing, or Red Velvet with cream cheese icing?
Red Velvet is my favorite…well, after banana cake that is. Cream cheese frosting FTW!
You know, my mom makes this killer frosting for her Red Velvet cakes. I should get you the recipe, it’s amazing, with no cream cheese but somehow better.
I will have to get back to you on that. I just remembered that she’s on vacation this weekend. I’ll definitely get it for you when she gets back next week. Want me to e-mail it to you or what?
I’m not a huge fan of store-bought cream cheese frosting, simply because it’s usually way too sweet. Otherwise, buying and not making frosting is fine by me.
You’re right.. it is very sweet. I usually don’t like really sweet icing either.. allthough I love chocolate from the jar, it just has to be the whipped kind.
Yeah, you can email it to me, send it to kimarooatgmaildotcom.
Nothing beats a good shampoo. Sometimes I just want to get a haircut just for the shampoo. It’s sad to me that salons charge a lot just for a shampoo, though. If it was like, $10 or $15, I’d just hop in and get a shampoo because I don’t need a haircut that often.
They do seem to charge a lot for just a shampoo.. I guess because the people who usually just buy a shampoo are somehow icky? I dunno. I know that when I had back surgery my dad took me as soon as he could to the salon to get my hair washed, cause I wasn’t allowed to take a bath yet. That was probably the best shampoo ever. And I remember it because the lady french braded my hair afterwards.. I had really really long hair back then and it was pretty : )
I got the same flashlight & I also bought one for a friend who has a thing for flashlights. He was thrilled. He’s weird. OTOH, I have a thing for office supplies which is weird too, so whatever
Not much exciting this weekend – karaoke for a friend’s b-day tomorrow night, that’s about it. Can’t wait for the end of the month, as I’ll be going on vacation for 10 days to Arizona to visit my aunt & uncle.
Anybody else got fun and exciting plans for the weekend?
I did that earlier in the week. We were having rice and fish and I didn’t have any good sauces that went with the fish (and I didn’t want to do soy), so I just put some butter and rice on it. It makes the rice a little less healthy (in my case I used Smart Balance, so it wasn’t too bad) but a lot more delicious.
This isn’t really food, per se, but tea always helps me. Avoid anything unfamiliar…unfamiliar sights and smells tend to exacerbate stomachaches and queasiness. Avoid anything greasy.
This. I did this to the letter when I was pregnant with kiddo #2.
Oh, and hey, I have found that ginger ale will really work wonders with an upset stomach. I highly recommend the ginger beer at Trader Joe’s (cane sugar!). If you can’t get that, Canada Dry will do in a pinch.
OH! I also wanted to say… this is week 2 of my having an Android phone. The Android Twitter app is 100x cuter than the iPhone/iPod one. Also: I must be demented because I downloaded the barcode scanner app and I am endlessly amused by scanning barcodes.
I got the Aria on AT&T.. it may not be the best option for Android there is, but I really like it a lot.. it’s a cute small phone and it does everything I want it to do so far. I wanted to stay with AT&T because my whole family is on it.
The only other ones I’ve downloaded has been Advanced App Killer (which shuts down things), the Twitter app, which is super cute, a bejewelled rippoff, I don’t remember what it’s called.. and a nifty little thing that lets you select whatever song you have on your phone as your ringtone.. it’s called Rings Extended. It actually adds a menu option whenever you normally select sounds or ringtones.
BF got a Vibrant a few weeks ago and he really enjoys it. I’m just pissed off that I have to stick with AT&T or anything and that means a metered data plan, which I know I will exceed.
I have AT&T as well and I actually went with the 200MB cheapo plan.. I have had my phone for 2 weeks and I’ve only used a whopping 11.1MB. I have wifi at home and I have been careful, but it seems like I should have used up more than that even.. but that’s what it says. I dunno.. 2GIG is probably really hard to blow through in a month.. unless you’re theathering.
Yeah I went 200MB too, and just finished the first full month – I used about 165MB, so just about right. If I had a bigger data plan, I’d probably stream Pandora all the time, but I really don’t need that, and don’t want to pay more for it. If I’m outside of wifi, I don’t just browse for the heck of it, but I haven’t had to hold back from checking my email or updating facebook. I think it’s just the right amount for me!
I am also a few weeks into my new Android phone (Samsung Captivate, on AT&T). I love it! I am on it all the time. Not sure the facebook app is the best, but I can always just use the browser. I used the MapMyRun app the other day to track my jog on a map. It told me the mileage when I got back – nice!
Any other Canadians on consumerist? I don’t live in Canada any more but I am still very much Canadian. Unfortunately I’m in an area of the U.S. that does NOT have Tim Horton’s or much hockey.
Sorry to hear that (re: Tim Hortons & Hockey). Here in New England we have both. Maine is really getting quite a few Tim Hortons these days and they are 24 hrs which is an added bonus.
Speaking of Android phones.. What are some good free Apps out there?
Other than the standard Sprint apps, Im using: Pandora(Internet Radio), MicDroid(messing with autotune), Shazam(looks up music), BestTube(youtube viewer/downloader), Barcode Scanner(duh), CalWidget(customizable calendar view), Dolphin Brower HD(Interwebz browser), RingDroid(make ringtones from mp3s), The Weather Channel(see forcast/radar)
I have tried using Handcent because I like the voice to text option, but it made my phone very slow, had to reload..
I’d really really like to have this kid out of me. Like, really. I’m 10,000 months pregnant and every day I feel more and more like a beached whale. With back pain. Who swallowed a human that keeps kicking around.
The magic words are “I am so ready to not be pregnant.” A girl I went to school with said that and went into labor less than 12 hours later. Good luck.

So I’ve lost 25 pounds in the last few months. Yay me! Not only are my clothes too big for me, but so are most of my shoes. Weird. I seem to have gone down half a shoe size. Plus most of my rings fall off my fingers now ’cause they’re too big. I suppose this means I’ll have to buy more bling that fits
Whee!

And congrats! I keep losing the same few pounds over and over, LOL. Of course if I would stay on track I wouldn’t keep gaining it back.
I’ve just been trying to eat healthier. I’ve been on many diets, none of which ever worked long term. So I told myself I’m not on a “diet”, which makes me feel deprived & hungry just thinking about it. I treat myself to chocolate when I feel like it (Trader Joes has these small Belgian chocolate bars, 1 of which is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth) The trick is to not get too hungry because I have no willpower when that happens. I try to eat foods that fill you up like multigrain pasta, quinoa, beans – all with lean protein and lots & lots of veggies.
I’ve finished almost everything I wanted to make for my show tomorrow! I ended up cutting a few items from the list, but I’ll have enough stock as it is and might have time tonight to make some of those if I feel like it. Now all I have to do is take some pictures, assemble my kit, make tags and price things (this is my least favourite part).
Thanks! I hope so, too. Clare is starting two medicines this week, and despite the small doseage kitty meds don’t come cheaply. Come on, art show money!
Mini McGee officially loves Consumer Reports. I was flipping through the most recent issue while he was playing on the floor, and suddenly he’s all up in my lap because THERE ARE CARS IN THAT MAGAZINE, MOM!!!! He is 15 months and cars are the be-all, end-all.
So I went and found him the all-cars issue and I thought he might actually explodinate with joy. He kept giggling and pointing at car after car after car.
hrm, crazy busy day at work with a cookout, hitting supervisors with pie in the face and then this weekend i have an early morning at a local park doing movie makeup. then i get to learn how to cut a hole in my wall and make a dog door.
really right now i just want to sleep though because i was allergic to something at the cookout and had to take a benadryl. cross contamination is not your friend
My husband has a weird flashlight thing, too. We have 2 in each vehicle, 1 one on each nightstand and keychain, under every sink cabinet. There is a flashlight within 3 steps of anywhere in our house. I don’t get it.
The mother-in-law is in town. Yay. :/ On the plus side we’ll be going to a local cider mill for a craft show and some delicious apple cider and donuts.
Still playing the hell out of ME2. Love that damn game.
This is the part where I point and laugh because my mother-in-law is in Australia where she belongs. Heh..
And then I feel sad because I won’t be eating any fabulous donuts this weekend… : /
I guess you win anyway.
Ha. I’m not sure if the donuts make up for it, but the draft show has a “build your own stuffed animal” workshop, so that might help…
That sounds AWESOME. I’m really jealous now.. seriously. I love stuffed animals.. and I once tried to go to Build A Bear because I thought it was the coolest idea ever.. but then when I got there it was swarming with kids and I got embarassed and left. : /
Not my proudest moment. Come to think of it.
Hehe. I made an awesome little bear for a friend’s kid there once. It was a lot more fun than it should have been since I was like 22 at the time.
Build a bear is cool, but its expensive. *shrug* My roommate bought one for me in college and dressed it up like The Shadow.
That is awesome as hell.
My mother-in-law lives in the same small city we do…
..and she calls multiple times a day(shes German)…anytime she hears sirens..or its going to rain…
and I have no donuts
My boss is buying lunch for the office. Free pizza!
We were suppsoed to have a FALL potluck and I brought a pumpkin pie.

I will SHARE the pumpkin divinity with you, but that is all.
I love ANYTHING to do with Pumpkin.
I will hurt people for pumpkin cheesecake.
I am willing to accept this agreement, fellow Pumpkinite.
That actually sounds really good.
We had free subs
Happy friday!
Free food on Fridays rocks. Someone gave me their leftover sushi.
We got bagles from the CEO this morning and now for a team lunch to welcome the new hire!
Free food tastes better!
Anyone planning on going to the Stewart/Colbert (called Rally to Restore Sanity and March to Keep Fear Alive, respectively) rallies on October 30?
Yes! We were supposed to fly to Arizona that day, but we haven’t bought our tickets so we’re probably going to put off our trip until Sunday just so we can go to the rally. Are you going?
Hopefully, but I’m not sure. There are a few things that might get in the way.
I just saw those stories on Gawker this morning. I want to go sooo bad, but we’re too far away.
Go for us and take pictures!
Same here, want to go but it’s too far away and can’t afford it anyway. Dash it all.
I hadn’t heard!!!!
Hells yes. Hopefully I can snag a press pass, too. If I can get one from Glenn Beck, Stewbert should be willing to hook me up.
>

Apparently, they don’t have permits yet so it would be hard to reveal any details. You can bet it’ll be at least a half-day event though.
I’ll be there in spirit!
I bring a question to the Consumerist hive mind needing some research:
Has anyone detected the Shrink Ray affecting Dairy Queen cuo sizes? I was there last week, which I do go frequently, and ordered a medium blizzard. The medium seemed just a bit smaller than normal. How could it possibly be BETTER without cream cheese? Cream cheese is awesome. Do send me your mom’s recipe though, it sounds very interesting.
I kinda feel ashamed now that I just bought the jar of cream cheese icing off the cake mix shelf…..
Heh.. oh well, it’s just crappy delicious junk food anyway. : )
I will have to get back to you on that. I just remembered that she’s on vacation this weekend. I’ll definitely get it for you when she gets back next week. Want me to e-mail it to you or what?

I’ve made it several times but of course I can’t remember it all now. Milk, flour, sugar, butter, um… Other stuff? Hehe, I’ll let you know.

Oh, me too.. I love office/school supplies.. I always have.. I refer to “back-to-school” as the most wonderful time of the year. Heheh.
RED VELVET!!!!!!!
I’m a sucker for anything chocolate but nothing beats red velvet cake. I prefer the smooth buttery icing, though.
Thank you for the puppy-pic-fix….now I can face the rest of the day.
The bagel I ate this morning managed to upset my stomach. A freaking BAGEL. Now it’s lunch time and I’m both hungry and sick to my stomach.
I’d take myself home if I hadn’t already taken a sick day.
Anyone know of any stomach-safe foods other than soup? I don’t know if I’ll be able to get soup for lunch.
What about some nice buttered toast? Or plain rice, maybe with some light soy or a bit of butter and salt?
I’m liking the rice idea. Thanks.
I did that earlier in the week. We were having rice and fish and I didn’t have any good sauces that went with the fish (and I didn’t want to do soy), so I just put some butter and rice on it. I got the Aria on AT&T.. it may not be the best option for Android there is, but I really like it a lot.. it’s a cute small phone and it does everything I want it to do so far. I wanted to stay with AT&T because my whole family is on it.

Hooray! Friends are moving into town this weekend so my boyfriend and I can hang out with other people
Glad to see a puppeh get equal time!
Kindle app (older books are free to download), ESPN ScoreCenter, fxCamera (like the hipstamatic iphone app)
I’d really really like to have this kid out of me. Like, really. I’m 10,000 months pregnant and every day I feel more and more like a beached whale. With back pain. Who swallowed a human that keeps kicking around.
Oh, I’m sorry! I was one week late with both of my kids, so I understand. May you be holding your baby as soon as possible.
The magic words are “I am so ready to not be pregnant.” A girl I went to school with said that and went into labor less than 12 hours later. Good luck.
We had a FedEx package delivered by a guy wearing a FedEx shirt holding the hand held computer to sign. It wasn’t until he walked back to the street that I noticed he was driving an Enterprise rent a truck. Does this seem weird to anyone else?
Was the package anything weird…? I would guess that they had too many of their trucks break down and had to rent one, maybe.
They do; I’ve had my FedEx man show up in rentals before. If a truck breaks down they have to still get all your packages out!
Congrats.
I didn’t know one could lose weight in their feet. Interesting.
My theory is that the less you weigh, the less pressure on your feet, which makes them smoosh out less (?)
Yep. It happens. Mine get wider as I gain weight. I’ve lost hundreds of pounds… 25 at a time, over and over
Whee!
New pretties!
And congrats! I keep losing the same few pounds over and over, LOL. Of course if I would stay on track I wouldn’t keep gaining it back.
Congrats! What did you do (if I may ask)?
I’ve just been trying to eat healthier. I’ve been on many diets, none of which ever worked long term. So I told myself I’m not on a “diet”, which makes me feel deprived & hungry just thinking about it. Mah honey is in Arizona now. I was looking at cheap airline flights and they are all on weekdays for the next few months. GRRR!!!!
What’s a girl to do!
Looks like you’re going to have to move.
*Sigh* not at that point yet.
Not sure how that’s going to play out.
Either that or win the PHC sweeps!
Have fun. I hope you sell a lot!
Thanks! I hope so, too. Clare is starting two medicines this week, and despite the small doseage kitty meds don’t come cheaply. Come on, art show money!
Where can I buy a meat dress?
I just realized that nobody said it, so I will.
PUPPEH!
