Black & Decker Recalls 192,000 Orbit Sanders Over Unintentional Flying Objects

Earlier today, Black & Decker and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of 192,000 Black & Decker Random Orbit Sanders after several reports that the plastic disc that holds the sandpaper to the sander can fly off and hurt the hell out of you or anyone around you.

So far, B&D knows of 73 incidents where the disc had broken off the sander, including 15 reports of injuries from flying pieces, one of which involved a serious facial laceration.

The models being recalled are:
RO400,
RO400G,
RO410,
RO410K,
RO410LW
FS3000ROS
All with date codes between 200701 and 200929.

As per the above photos, the model number is printed on a label on the sander, while the date code is stamped on the underside of the sander where the dust bag is inserted.

These sanders were sold in various hardware and discount stores between 2007-2009 and retailed for around $40.

If you own one, you should stop using it and contact Black & Decker for a free replacement disc.
