Don't Send Your Sheriff A Text When You're Looking To Buy Pot

For those of you looking to purchase marijuana via text message, here’s a free tip: Pay attention to the number you’re texting. Just ask the Montana teen who screwed up and accidentally sent his pot request to his local sheriff.

Last week, the sheriff of Lewis and Clark County was minding his own business when he got a text from an inattentive pot smoker in the market for some marijuana.

The text, obviously intended for someone other than the sheriff, read: “Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?”

Once the sheriff realized this was the real deal, he responded and arranged a meeting with the prospective buyer. At the meet, a detective confirmed that two boys — 15 and 16 years of age — were the intended purchasers and then moved in and flashed his badge.

According to the AP, “their faces turned white and their knees began to wobble. One of the boys even fainted.”

Making matters worse, one teen’s father was on the scene. Authorities say he was “unaware of what was going on.”

After talking to the parents of both boys, police opted to bypass the legal system and allow the families to mete out their own punisments.

Explains the sheriff, “Trying to buy drugs is a crime, but it’s probably worse that they had to face their parents.”
