Craigslist Pulls 'Adult Services' Section From Site?

Less than a month after both Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster and the site’s founder Craig Newmark defended the website against allegations that its Adult Services was a hub of illegal prostitution and sex trafficking, it looks like that section is no more.

Late Friday, Craigslist visitors in the U.S. saw the Adult Services link replaced by the words “censored” in a black box.

As of late Saturday night, the company had not posted anything about this change on its official blog. No word from Mr. Newmark either.

Craigslist has become a target of at least 18 states’ attorney generals over the Adult Services section.

It’s not known if the removal of the controversial section is permanent or merely to make a point. If it is permanent, that would be a huge financial blow to the company, which relies on Adult Services listings for a good chunk of its revenue.
