Watch 3DTV without the goofy glasses. There are reports coming from Japan that Toshiba is planning to sell 3DTVs that don’t need 3D glasses by the end of 2010. The information on this potentially ground-breaking product is a little fragmented, but there should be more concrete evidence on the matter soon. In the meantime, if you’re wearing those glasses, we’re not laughing at you, we’re … OK, we’re laughing at you. [Consumer Reports Electronics]

I’m wearing the glasses and playing 3D video games on a 100″ projection screen. I accept your laughs.

I work in the industry (marginally) and this isn’t really ground breaking. There are many types of 3D displays; some require glasses, some not. Almost all 3D displays have drawbacks. My favorite technology is readily available but not popular. My opinion is that these giant flatscreens will be passe pretty soon and the winning horse will be stereoscopic glasses. The personal ‘iTiVo 3D’ would be the way the future should go. The theater experience will all but disappear.
