Chef Fined For Licking Toads In The Kitchen

The chef at a Japanese restaurant in Iowa was fined $335 after health department officials watched a video of him licking and kissing toads, then putting them in his mouth and then back on the prep table, in the restaurant’s kitchen. His brother taped the stunt and posted it on Facebook.

The chef explained to WHOTV that it was the end of the evening and the kitchen was closed, and that it was just “a dare to myself, if I can lick a frog or kiss a frog.” The owner of the restaurant apologized for the chef’s behavior by saying he’s a “funny guy” who lacks training. “It’s his fault and my fault too. He’s not supposed to bring frogs in the restaurant.” Yeah, really you should make that rule clear when you hire an employee.

    And then? No “and then”!

So were they worried about the chef catching diseases or the frogs catching a disease?

    Closing time,
Open all the doors and let your toads into the world.
I know who I want to lick my toad.

i’d like to point out this guy goes by TaiMaiShu, which is an ‘asian’ rapper from a while back. Pretty funny, stupid, stuff but still funny. Just wondering if there is a connection here.

The hell is it about Facebook that all idiot roads lead there? Done something stupid, illegal, dangerous or just plain gross? Hey! Put it on Facebook!

Must have been the toads whose secretions get you high.

Whew, it’s in Davenport. I was a little worried since I go for sushi a bunch.

The still on that video is gag-worthy.

  17. Big Mama Pain says:

You can’t see the other cook out of the video shot, rubbing down all the prep surfaces with raw chicken. Seriously, this does not show that he put anyone in harm’s way. If I was prepping raw chicken, other than putting it in or around my mouth, I’d be handling something that is potentially covered in salmonella and placing it on a prep surface-if I made a video of that, would I get fined, too? It doesn’t show the chef then preparing food without washing his hands or the table, which would be the actual breach.

I think it might be more a live animal in the kitchen thing than a licking ick germs thing. There’s another article that says they’re his pets and he brings them to work in the kitchen daily; after the ticket he was told they stay out.
