The proposed Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2010 could improve car safety if passed by Congress. As a part of this act the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) would get with more resources and authority. The bill would also make NHTSA address four safety changes proposed by Consumers Union in response to the Toyota sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) issues. These changes include methods to address pedal entrapment and simple, standard controls to turn off the engine in an emergency. [Consumer Reports Cars]
