Congress Won't Let Traders Gamble On Hollywood Box Office

If you were planning on putting your kids through college based on your foreknowledge that Toy Story 3 was going to rock the box office, you’ll need to do your gambling on the black market, because Congress has banned Hollywood box office futures trading.

The move came Friday in a House-Senate conference committee, Deadline Hollywood Daily reports:

Chair Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) said during a short discussion that while there had been controversy about movie futures, the House conferees were not going to exercise their option to alter the amendment banning movie futures trading. He said they were agreeing to the amendment as written by Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) for the Senate bill. ‘By not addressing it, we have acquiesced in that,’ said Frank.

Translation: Wager on pork bellies instead, day traders.
