Wendy's Drops Donna Summer Hit Over Misheard Lyrics

Donna Summer’s 1978 hit “Last Dance” won a Grammy and an Oscar, sold over 5 million copies, and reached Number 3 on the Billboard chart. But none of that matters to the tastemakers at Wendy’s. The fast-food chain has dropped the Karaoke Disco Fever CD — which included the Summer hit — from its kids meals because some customers apparently thought the line “when I’m bad I’m so, so bad” was actually “when I’m bad I’m so, so horny.” We can only wonder what they would have thought of “Love to Love You Baby.”

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

The lyrics on the CD cover include the words “so bad.” But some heard the words “so horny” in the song, which was marked as safe for children 3-years-old and up. The company making the CDs for Wendy’s apparently included the adult version of the song.

We’re not quite sure what to make of the claim, as we haven’t been able to track down the “adult” version yet, and the original recording doesn’t have the lyric. What we really need is for someone to do a critical, line-by-line breakdown of the song. But, sadly, Steve Allen is no longer available — and neither is the video of his exegesis of “Hot Stuff,” so you’ll just have to imagine it.
