Chrysler Recalls 25,000 Dodge Caliber & Jeep Compass Vehicles Over Sticky Pedals

In the history of the auto industry, 2010 will likely go down as the Year of the Sticky Pedal, as U.S. automaker Chrysler becomes the third car manufacturer this year to issue a recall over potentially stuck accelerators.

The recall involves model year 2007 Dodge Calibers and Jeep Compasses. Chrysler says the fault lies with the manufacturer of the pedals:

The pivot bushings in vehicles with oversized accelerator pedal bearing pockets may become dislodged and potentially cause the accelerator pedal to bind or stick.

Chrysler does point out that both vehicles are equipped with brake override systems, which should cause the engine to stop revving once the brake pedal is pushed.

The car maker will replace the iffy pedals at no charge. Contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 for more information.
