Nissan Recalls 540,000 Cars

Due to potential problems in brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components, Nissan is recalling 540,000 cars, 179,000 of which are in the US.

The recall affects Titan, Armada, Quest and Infiniti QX56 pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and minivans built between 2008 and 2010. Nissan said there were three cases of of brake pedal pins partially disengaging but “no accidents or injuries have been reported”.

AP reports:

A pin in the brake pedal assemblies on certain 2008 to 2010 Titan pickups and Armada SUVs and some 2008 and 2009 Quest minivans can come loose and cause reduced braking force, Nissan said Tuesday in a statement.

Nissan also is recalling certain 2005 to 2009 Armadas and Titans and some 2006 and 2008 Frontier pickups and Xterra and Pathfinder SUVs due to faulty gas gauges. Due to a problem with a sensor inside the fuel tank, the gauges can show gas tanks a quarter full when they are in fact empty.

Nissan suggests keeping a half-tank of gas in the vehicles until the gauges can be repaired, eliminating the risk of running low on fuel.

Owners will be told to bring their cars in for repairs. The brake pedal recall will start March 22nd and the gas pedal recall will be in two groups, one starting March 22nd and one in april.

Unlike Toyota, Nissan blamed the problem squarely on two of its parts suppliers, reports the Times of London. They pointed fingers at KER International for the brakes, and TI Automative and Energy for the fuel gauges.
