Wife Sues Debt Collector For Husband's Death

As we told you in September, a woman is suing a debt collector for her husband’s final heart attack and death.

Dianne McLeod says the almost 10 times a day harasssing phone calls got her husband so enraged she had to take away the phone from him; the calls made him sweat, get red in the face, and have chest pains.

Stanley McLeod suffered from a heart condition and had already had two heart attacks. For the second one he was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

“Why don’t you have that helicopter pick you up and bring that payment to the office?” said one Green Tree message left on their machine.

Stanley had gone on disability and that’s when the couple fell roughly three months behind on their mortgage payments.

He died of heart failure in 2005.

Just because you owe money doesn’t mean you deserve inhumane treatment. Whether or not you believe Green Tree is responsible for Stanley’s death, the debt collection tactics they used were illegal. It’s important to arm yourself with the facts and know how to fight back.
