Tempted by a commercial he saw during a football game, Dave decided to order a 1-topping carry out pizza online for $6.99. But every time he entered the order, the internet kept telling him he had to pay $14.74.

Thus infuriated and pizza-less, Dave has penned an open letter to Pizza Hut:

OK, Pizza Hut...I saw your ad about 20 times Sunday while watching football. You got me, I want a pizza.

Too bad your site can't make good on the deals in your TV ads.

The deal is supposed to be a large 1-topping pizza for carryout @ $6.99. I went to your site and found the coupon that matched the ad. I added the coupon to my order. I ordered a large 1-topping pizza for carryout.

No matter how I tried the order (pizza first then coupon, coupon first then pizza), it would not work properly. I went all the way through the checkout process and still no love for your own coupon. The confirmation email about my order didn't even mention the coupon!

I thought about emailing you, Pizza Hut, to complain about your site, but you don't provide an email address for doing that. You want me to fill out a form on a webpage and there's no place for attachments.

Sorry, but I don't have time to debug that part of your site, too.

Dave's screenshot seems to be proof that the site recognizes his coupon but just didn't give him the discount. Has anyone else had difficulty getting the $6.99 offer or using other Pizza Hut coupon codes?

Unbelievable. I ask Consumerist for genuine, urgent help regarding a £1,500 flight screw up. It takes them 3 weeks to get back to me and when they do, they send me a link?! Today was the day of the flight and the reply from Consumerist and luckily we got it sorted in time.

So, I log on here at lunch, thinking "Oh, I'm sure Consumerist have loads of pressing issues like mine to help with. It's cool. They're probably backlogged." and find this load of toss about Pizza Hut coupons from some idiot who doesn't know what a phone is?!

Stop reporting on garbage like this, Consumerist. Nobody cares about some moron and his Pizza hut coupons.

I hate pizza hut's online ordering system. They don't list prices for anything until you see the total during checkout. So you're shopping blind until then. What a pain in the ass.

I tried to use their online ordering system Friday night with no luck either. I ending up calling them and they took my order over the phone and gave me the same deal that I would have gotten online. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had trouble with it. I only order pizza about once a year so I wasn't about to take it any further by letting corporate know. I just let my local Pizza Hut know about it and left it at that.

Having tried to use the Pizza Hut website to place orders before, I have basically determined that the Pizza Hut online ordering system is useless and will only phone in orders now. There is no reason that such a large company should have such an utterly useless website.

It could have been an online only promotion, which they often are when advertised nationally, and so the OP couldn't call in. Or it simply could have been that the local store was set not to honor the coupon, though it should have said so some where on the website.

ummm...Everytime Ive used their website, I have to click checkout before any discounts are applied. They actually have a thing that checks the order for any applicable coupons you may have missed. This guy is sitting on the order page, not the page that shows the final price.

I seriously want to know where everyone lives that has these amazing pizza deals. All of the pizza places here are $16 for a medium specialty, $20 for a large (all of them, save for the ones that are more expensive. One places charges $35 for a large!)

my first question would be how did you sign is as a "GUEST USER" as pizza hut requires you to create an account. Yes the name information could have been changed by why do that as it is obvious that you enjoy using photoshop or some other graphical art program and could have easily just blurred your name.

I have to agree with ohwevad. Did it mean that much to you that you needed to spend all that time highlighting and making notes on screenshots just because there was, possibly, a glitch in the website? Most likely you could have called and gotten them to discount your order.

I imagine, and I could be wrong, that there is a chance you didn't order it properly. I remember trying to use a coupon for a pizza (can't remember which restaurant), and had a similar problem. The reason for it was that when I added the coupon, I had to order the pizza right afterwards using the coupon's choices. It was a step-by-step process. If I tried to manually add one, even if it met the requirements, it didn't work. I also remember a time with Pizza Hut where it let me add a few coupons (stacked), but wouldn't discount the total on one of them because the store I choose wouldn't honor one of them. But it was still listed. Sure, I guess that was a bug in the site, but big deal. imho.

I haven't bothered with pizza hut since they got rid of printable coupons and made the online page redirect to the login page. I still can't order online for my local pizza hut, which is stupid, and every time I ask if they plan to ever enable my local one they just reply with "thank you for your input". Their food isn't good enough for them to charge more than a large pizza than the local place when their pizzas arent as big as even a medium from a normal pizzeria, the only reason I ever went there was for their breadsticks. So addicting :(

My god, what a waste of time. Could have just called in and told them their $7 online special isn't working. Just about the only part of their site that's always worked well for me is the coupons, so I doubt this is part of some sort of larger story.
