My new favourite perfume is 'A romp in the tea garden' from Loreto: [www.etsy.com] It smells like a blend of black currant and Earl Grey teas with just a hint of dark chocolate, and while I rarely go for scents like that, this one totally works. The tannin-rich tea notes provide a good balance and tames the sweetness. Between that, her 'Daphne' scent and the ones I got last week from Scodioli ([www.etsy.com]), my autumn scent collection is ready!
I have been pushed past the edge of tolerance and patience with my cubemate for the last few weeks. Yesterday I was biting my tongue nearly all day. I had no idea one single human being could be that incompetent and inattentive. In the last month and a half that I've been training her (and she worked here for 2 months before a 6-week temp cull) she has not only failed to learn any new programs, but failed to progress whatsoever with what she does "know." On a 15-minute break last evening she had four people come up with paperwork she had done to give it back to her to completely redo because it was so botched.
I am about ready to start yelling at her, though I know I can't.
Talked with a boss last week, and my other boss last night... if there's any justice in the world I will not see her again monday. I didn't ask for a firing, just laid it down for them. Anyone else in my department who handles reviews is in agreement on the matter and backing me up.
What boggles the mind is my city has an effective 25-30% unemployed, unemployed and out of benefits, and underemployed rate. One in four. And we get THAT.
Is there any hardware internet radio that supports MLB Gameday Audio? I like the idea of something like the Livio Internet Radio, but in order to completely ditch XM, I have to be able to get my baseball audio somehow.
I could get an old laptop with wireless I suppose and just keep that atop my stereo. Just wondering if I could put up with the ugliness.
@treimel: I had soup, which is decidedly not as good as what you're having, but relatively filling. Except now I'm disappointed at my choice of lunch and I want something else. I think I'll go get gelato.
So, where to start...
UF [University of Florida] site has emergency plan for zombie attack - [chalkboard.blogs.gainesville.com]
which bringsme to my next point... Going to see Zombieland tonight!
OK, so I made some new animated gifs. If you could all let me know what you think, it would be much appreciated. Feel free to use them wherever you feel like on the net. I just ask you leave a comment at the photobucket page to link where you used it. [s165.photobucket.com]
@GitEmSteveDave_@Gmail.comNeedsAWaveInvite: Awesome gifs !! I can never seem to be able to embed mine and get them to show up. Is that a star privaledge?
@Ratty: I say don't do anything else. You went to your bosses and they know the situation, they know you are not incompetent, just this chick. If she comes to you again, explain that you are really busy and you don't have time to help her (in a nice way). Let her fail on her own. You did everything you could to help her but that's as far as it should go.
@tawni: No, it shouldn't be. Check you PM's under your profile page, and I'll send you my secret tutorial.
BUT YOU PROMISED NOT TO START WITHOUT ME :(
Ok I have a few things to say/ask:
1. I apparently have over 100 followers now. Which means that even during the recession, fat penguins trolling the interwebs are always in demand.
2. I am looking for vacation ideas for the Holidays. I am leaning towards backpacking through a city. I did that for DC and Manhattan, and that was fun. So I am looking for suggestions. Requirements:
[] Should be warmish.
[] Should not be expensive
[] Should be backpacker friendly.
Though I am not above getting together with other losers from these forums either for a vacation meetup ;)
3. I am planning to go as "Blue Hands" for Halloween. I figured that since I come across as creepy, no matter what i am trying to do, that one will be a perfect role. Though I am not sure if an Indian dude playing "Blue Hands" is going to be very convincing. Any ideas?
4. I offer free oral sex for a Google Wave invite.
@treimel: I caved. I didn't get gelato, I got one scoop of regular ice cream because it was cheaper.
@MostlyHarmless: woah.... for point number 4. what is google wave and how do I get it so I can take you up on your offer?
@squinko - needs one more heart click, come on!: I know. I think Laura is pissed because i suggested that her hamster would make a great toy for my cat...
@MostlyHarmless: Nashville is warmish, relatively inexpensive, and backpack friendly. Lots of places to go and see, and has a lot of cheapish places to stay. Also, lively music scene. You can also go to Vanderbilt and sit in on lectures for a day.
@Burning pakalolo not even noticing the weather: I'm not about to do anything drastic. What I've been doing the last week or so is asking her questions back to her rephrased slightly, hoping she'll understand how dumb it sounds and that she already has been trained on it and has procedure manuals for EVERY thing she asks. It has largely failed. Once or twice a day, fine, but multiple times on every document with the same questions for each? Arrrgh.
My bosses know my skillset, patience, and attentiveness. They also know I'm the best trainer on the team and if someone is making me develop an eye-twitch to hearing my name (mispronounced i may add), something is very awry. We're just very shorthanded and it takes a while to get someone trained for this department.
it's still insanely frustrating right now. it doesn't help that she's a smoker who seems to bathe in a calgon knockoff and be eating constantly.
@MostlyHarmless: 2. Anywhere in Southern AZ or Sonora Mexico. Cheap, warm, good hiking and good museums. Nice area to visit just don't live here.
3. blue hands would be totally convincing
4. not surprising
@pecan 3.14159265: Except that I live 2 hours from there, and go there twice every summer :P
More importantly, I went there as recently as labor day. And my ex is in Vanderbilt. If I sat in on the lectures, she'd probably slap me with a restraining order.
That said though, I think Nashville is definitely in the Top 3 list of my favorite places I don't call home.
@JulesNoctambule: Apple turnover update: I found them pretty unremarkable, and not really worth the pastry-making effort. (Admittedly, I'm more of a cake person, but still.) So I suspect whatever turnover recipes you've already got are just as good.
@JulesNoctambule: Where's that "smell through the Internet" technology when you need it? I might want to try that tea one--I really like a nice tea note.
@MostlyHarmless: How soon are you planning on going? It's still warmish here in Pgh, and with a little list of suggestions of where to eat/what to see this can actually be a really nice place to visit.
@katia802: I thought my ice cream would shake me out of the after lunch fogginess, but now I'm just sleepier!
@Ratty: Ouch. That sounds horrible. I agree though, there isn't much else you can do. Just let her flounder along until she gets fired. Although if she's still there on Monday, ask for a cube switch because you're allergic to her perfume/smoke and it's disrupting your ability to work. :)
@MostlyHarmless: Mine too- so much so that I call it my second home now and plan to transfer to either Vanderbilt (if I can) or Belmont (because it's within walking distance of my cousin's home) at the end of this year or next. Right now I'm studying at a Chinese university (you may have heard of it if you've been to University of Michigan or Georgia Tech as they have exchange programs and easy transfer agreements with these two schools, but I won't be naming it here) but it's getting a bit suffocating (yeah, "extend" our October holiday- then make us take classes on the Sunday before and Saturday after? This is madness! To speak nothing of the fact that winter break consists of the last week of January and the whole of February, completely missing the holidays I care about, that this school lets out on July, I could go on... But hey, there's a Lawson on campus!). But if you can afford the plane tickets Osaka's a lovely place to be right now. Plenty of discounts to be had if you look carefully.
@theblackdog_Happy250thGuinness!: More like SA. They put every pic on blingee. I wish I could've found the blunt gif though. The pose his hand is perfect for it.
@Ratty: Oblivious people are oblivious. I've encountered people like that too. I once had a coworker who repeatedly showed up to work dressed inappropriately (ranging from club wear to borderline pajama wear to 'oops I'm late' tank top and flip flops) and on the occasions in which I felt like the bosses would notice, I would very subtly fib that my aunt had bought me a low-cut tank top, and that it's not something I'd ever wear, let alone to work. I hoped she would get the hint, but no luck.
@Ratty: Is she taking any notes on what you have been teaching her? When I first started at my job I had a notebook with me at all times, writing down everything. If she is taking notes, I would ask her to read back to you what her notes say about the certain issue/question at hand. If she is not I would tell her that she needs to start writing stuff down, now. If you must, micro-manage her notes. As you are telling her things, if she is not writing it down, pause and say "put that in your notes, i'll wait".
Me personally I am not one that has a great amount of patience for "stupid/just doesn't get it" people. I am very good at documenting and making sure other people understand what I have done or what I need done. When they come back to me asking what something is, I simply look at them and say "did you read the document and my comments?" That gets them every time because I have already answered the questions they were going to ask.

Is there anything better for lunch than a spicy vindaloo? If there is, I haven't found it.
