Pizza Hut Manager Attacks Old Man
A 27-year-old Pizza Hut manager in Winnipeg, Manitoba, went bonkers last Friday and dragged a 76-year-old customer to the ground over a payment dispute. The manager was arrested, and the customer returned the next afternoon to dine, because he is afraid of nothing.
That sounds like something that would happen in Florida, not Canada. Oh wait, here's a more Canadian-sounding bit from the Winnipeg Free Press article:
"I'm very angry," Rose said Saturday afternoon, fiddling with napkins in his hands and trying to hold back tears. "I went to a dance later that night and I didn't even enjoy myself."

In today's paper, I read that a couple in Mississippi was upset they had to wait too long for a KFC order and sat outside and waited for the employee to leave. The coupon jumped the employee and started beating on him/her and were arrested on assault charges.
Crazy people are crazy. Regardless of region.
@squinko - has 50 followers, what more do I need?!: Alas, Kevin Bacon's heroic crusade was for naught.
@pecan 3.14159265: The coupon jumped the employee? Wow. Those online discount coupons are sure getting out of hand.
@squinko - has 50 followers, what more do I need?!: You mean to tell me that junior highs don't have dances anymore? Or high schools?
I hated them and never went, but I am curious.
@MostlyHarmless: One time a Arbys coupon lured me into a dark ally with promises of apple turn-overs and then mugged me. Live and learn.
@MostlyHarmless: Why the heck did I type coupon? Well, kudos to me for spelling it right, but why did I type coupon?
@rpm773: And if it were me, I definitely would have been back jitterbugging with the ladies by 6:30pm.
Fake continuation of article:
A witness said the manager was upset because the customer refused to accept Pizza Hut's new name "The Hut."
"That's just stupid," said Rose. "This is just like when Kentucky Fried Chicken changed its name to KFC."
At that point the manager became enraged, witnesses said.
@G.O.B.: Come on!: Until it hit the Internet, then Dominos' CEO would get a webcam and a teleprompter together and film a badly recited apology.
@MostlyHarmless: You mean the "because he's not afraid of anything" part? That was removed from the article, its only on the tidbit on the front page for some reason.
I sure would like to know more about the payment dispute that started this thing.
I really hate how they skimmed over it - of course the manager over reacted and should never have touched him, but would be nice to know what set him off.
That is for the payment, did the old guy take out a bill and write "The managers wife is a good lay" or something and hand it over as payment?
Of course I'm not trying to stick up for the manager, but feel there is an important part of the story missing.
The article could have at least thrown in a Canadian tuxedo joke when referencing Mr. Rose's later activities.
@squinko - has 50 followers, what more do I need?!: I would attempt to clarify, but we'll just leave it as is. It's not exactly important. Apologies for any confusion.
@coan_net: If you read the comments, someone claiming to be a witness said the man pre-paid for his food.
@pecan 3.14159265: At first I thought you were using it in the colloquial sense, but then I remembered that "coupon" is slang for "face" in Scotland, not a person. Well, at least if all of the Irvine Welsh that I have read is to be believed.
@eaglearcher: From the comments:
Ed Rose is somewhat of a fixture in Southdale Square. I worked at another restaurant in the area over ten years ago, and can still remember the rude behavior Mr. Rose would exhibit towards my co-workers and I.Impolite customers are part of the job, but when the same one shows up every day, stays for four-to-six hours, and argues for the same non-existent discounts, something has to give. (thabdogg)
@squinko - has 50 followers, what more do I need?!: No, he could have done stuff. Like yell at the manager, threaten the manager, spit on the manager, etc.
@shockwaver: "Man, I've had a shitty summer this year, I'd better take it out by assaulting an old person."

This story was seriously challenging my Canadian stereotypes... until the last quote. And then suddenly everything was right with the world. And I was on the floor laughing.
