I've heard of some funky plans to revive the economy and reduce toxic debt, but the Obama Administration selling candy like some Little League team makes me really doubt the seriousness/competency of this administration. Especially if they are selling goods for half price and lowering their profit margins. How are we supposed to give more mortgages that way?

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_MovesHisHipsLikeYeah: I don't care. All I know is, if I can sell the rest of this box of chocolate that the White House mailed to me, I can get a free Gameboy Advance.

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_MovesHisHipsLikeYeah: I am shooting for the free 19" HDTV if I sell a thousand units. Lots of nifty prizes for selling this year.

Hey... if "rebates" makes it into the top 10 shopping peeves, you have to stop putting "after rebate" offers into Morning Deals. Deal?

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_MovesHisHipsLikeYeah: Are you telling me the 4/1 option arm I just took out on those chocolates was a bad idea?

user-pic

@speedwell, avatar of snark: Dang, that rebate deal got past me. Deleted!

I have banned MIR "deals" since I started doing the Morning Deals, and will continue to keep them off the list.

The ipod is tempting. I can't see whether it's 2G or 3G anywhere on the site though...

Are refurbished ipods a good idea?

user-pic

@BabyFirefly: I don't know if I'd be worried about the refurbished part as much as I'd be worried about it's coming from Buy.com

user-pic

that Borders 30% off coupon states that it is for Rewards Membership only so if you're not a Rewards member YMMV.

user-pic

@BabyFirefly: It's an iPod Touch, not an iPhone. It doesn't have 2G or 3G since those are cell-phone tower data signals.

user-pic

I am most tempted by the Container Store deal.

Man, I'm a nerd.

user-pic

I'm shocked that consumerist missed this!!!

@BabyFirefly: "Are refurbished ipods a good idea?"

Take out the word "refurbished" and you have your answer, a solid NO

user-pic

@Tito151: Then I was lied to by my so-called Ipod expert friend who said there was a 2g and 3g ipod Touch. :-(

@Moosehawk: Never heard of that site... is it that terrible?

user-pic

@Kimaroo - No Stars Upon Thars: Ha, ha, I'll probably get there first and wipe them out and leave you NOTHING MUAHAHAHAA.... in my dreams maybe :)

user-pic

@speedwell, avatar of snark: Oooh.. you are cruel.

Thankfully you don't know what side of Houston I live on, there are lots of Container stores! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!

user-pic

@speedwell, avatar of snark: Erm.. ok, so there are only two.. but still! That should be enough for the both of us!

user-pic

@Kimaroo - No Stars Upon Thars: I, too, was very excited by the Container Store deal.

user-pic

@BabyFirefly: The iPod Touch is a 2gen. The 3gen skipped the 16GB version. The Splurge, my iPod Touch:

is a 16gb refurb 2gen iPod Touch, which is the same price as a brand new 8gb one, which isn't really 3gen like the 32 or 64gb, as they have a different chipset. As to the quality, it carries the same warranty as a brand new iPod, so if there IS a problem, you'll have the same outcome as a brand new one getting repaired. And yes, I LOVE THE SPLURGE!

user-pic

@ncboxer: No, you're thinking of Freddy Mac. They are owned by McDonalds.

user-pic

@captainpicard: OMG, if you squint, it almost looks like Meg!

user-pic

@Trai_Dep: OHHHHH, if you only knew the secret Snuggie Test photos w/Ben and Meg I saw while at the Consumer Reports lab on Saturday. Two words. Snuggie. Hat.

user-pic

All the items under $15 at Fannie May are sold out. I guess no free candy for me :(

user-pic

I want that Monty Python DVD set. Never mind that we already have a version of it, I want that one, for it has more. And I know that they'll eventually do a version that includes the new documentary airing on IFC this week, so I should wait. Other than that, Do Want.

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_MovesHisHipsLikeYeah:I still have copies of "GRIT" from the Carter Administration I have to sell first.

user-pic

@Goatweed: Signing up for Borders Rewards a) is free, and b) takes a minute or two to do.

Seriously, if you ever go to Borders you should have signed up already.

user-pic

those philips headphones are $5 less on amazon. ($30)

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_MovesHisHipsLikeYeah: No, that's a first-gen iPod Touch. Aside from googling the model number, you can tell by some of the stats, particularly the weight. The one at buy.com weighs 4.2 oz. The 2nd gen Touch weighs 4.05 oz.

The 1st gen Touch lacks bluetooth support, its battery doesn't last quite as long, and I think it has a slower processor than the 2nd gen units. It probably comes with an older version of the OS too, since buy.com doesn't say otherwise. In that case, if you want to upgrade to the current iPod OS, it'll cost you I think $5 or $10.

Apple has refurbished 2nd gen touches for $199 (16gb). I've bought refurbished computers from them and had absolutely no complaints. Crutchfield also sells refurbished iPods from time to time.
