Honor Your Favorite Deceased Infomercial Celebrity This Halloween

5617 views

One of the inexpensive Halloween costume ideas suggested by readers was to dress in honor of the deceased and beloved infomercial pitchman Billy Mays. (This costume is especially simple if you already have dark hair and a beard.) Today, Billy Mays III announced a Billy Mays costume contest, sponsored and judged by his friends and colleagues at Sullivan Productions.

Showing that they have a sense of humor, zombie-themed costumes are acceptable.

Here's how to enter:

1. Simply send a photo of your costume to wheresbillymays@gmail.com along with your contact info (email and/or twitter will do)
2. Be tasteful. (Zombies ARE permitted)
3. Project your voice.
4. Have fun.

Deadline for entry is Wednesday, November 4.

Billy Mays here for rolling over in my grave!

In other news, a Billy Mays zombie would never have stained clothing.

I really admire how young Billy has continued on, and honored his father in a way he would have done himself.

I'm a big fan of billy mays. This is a picture of me when I met him TWO WEEKS before he passed away.

@JPropaganda: Very cool. Love your expression in the picture!

user-pic

Hmmm...I wish I had known a few weeks ago, coulda started growing the beard and made it legit...

user-pic

But my favorite infomercial celebrity is the Saladmaster guy.

user-pic

Actually, my hubby and I are going as live commercial celebrities this year. He's going to be the Sham Wow guy and I'm going to be Flo from the Progressive commercials. I look forward to being perky enough to drive people insane.

user-pic

Skinny bastards from Jersey are stuck going as the Sham-Wow guy.

user-pic

Being a girl, a Billy Mays costume would be awkward.

user-pic

This might be a bad costume idea if you go for any sort of accuracy. I can picture people asking, "Is that OxiClean under your nose?"
In all seriousness, I liked Billy Mays. I'm nothing but saddened not just by his death, but by what lead up to it.

user-pic

Haha this is awesome, I've been growing out my beard for a week now in preparation for being Billy Mays, had no idea there was a contest.

I thought I was the only one that though of this idea lol

@Kimaroo - No Stars Upon Thars: +1

Besides, it's halloween. A female Billy/Billie Mays, beard and all, would look relatively normal :D

user-pic

@Snakeophelia: Can you pull off a Stephanie Courtney look? If so, I'm very upset you're already married.

user-pic

@Moosehawk: On the non-stand up front, has anyone seen the new I believe it's Bud commercials where they have some guy pretending to be Billy? It's too soon to do THAT.

user-pic

And I thought I was being original a few weeks ago when I decided to be Billy Mays for Halloween. I even started growing out my beard. Now I have to decide if I still want to do it.

user-pic

@theSuperman: mix it up and be Billy Mays-bot.

user-pic

If anyone dresses like Billy Mays and covers their face in flour (or at least their nose) and comes to my door they get a face full of the peacemaker...no exceptions.

user-pic

@Snakeophelia: So you're saying your husband washes away the smell of weed and hooker spit from his breath every morning by drinking a sam adams?!?

user-pic

@nstonep: If it was me, they'd get their bag full of Reese's miniatures.

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_IsStrongInTheSnark: Definitely saw them, where they hawk items related to tailgating. I enjoy the items and ideas and find them humorous but always cringe a little as it's so obvious they are trying to be Billy Mays (and yes a little too soon).

user-pic

@pecan 3.14159265: Awww come on you should try it, and send us pics!

user-pic

@nstonep: Peacemaker huh? I would be giving out candy to people but guns work as well I guess.

Also, is the peacemaker the colt.45 or am I mistaken?

user-pic

From watching Pitchmen, his dad seemed like he had a good sense of humor.

user-pic

@nstonep: That's a really violent reaction to humor you've got there. Chill out.

user-pic

I know I have received a lot of ads about Michael Jackson (as if he was the only dead celebrity we should honor by trying to be him).

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_IsStrongInTheSnark: Holy crap I've seen that commercial a hundred times and never noticed that. When I actually listened to it for once I could hear a little Billy in his voice. I agree, just a bit too soon

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_IsStrongInTheSnark: Those commercials are just plain annoying, especially when they come on after every quarter, TD, or Timeout.
