Announcing The First Consumerist Meetup
We're planning on having a Consumerist meetup in early November. Currently locking down a location in Manhattan, more details to come. Nothing fancy, just a chance to meet other readers and hang out with the writers from the site and have some drinks on us!

I live about 2.5 hours from NYC, buttttt I have other stuff to do and people to see in the area, so maybe I can make it. How do I explain this to my friends, though? Yes, I'm going to meet some people I actually don't know, but have talked to a lot on the internet. At least it isn't WoW, I suppose...hahaha.
@katstermonster: Oi! I've met up with a lot of folks from FFXI and WoW over the years and a lot of those good folks I have become really good and close friends with. :P
@Taliskan: Haha not saying that I wouldn't thoroughly enjoy it...but I don't regularly make trips to the city, so it's kind of awkward to explain why I'm headed down for the day. I still feel as if the internet hasn't quite reached the point of being a fully acceptable way to meet people. Heh.
@katstermonster: The same way I just had to explain to my family, "The reason I can't go out of town to go to my cousins wedding is that we already planned to be out of town to go to a gamer clan BBQ."
And then shrug.. a lot. And in my case, blame it on Mr. Aroo. A lot.
@Laura Northrup: Let me beat Stevedave to it:
If I manage to get there, will there be a Kimaroo sized labcoat waiting for me?
@Kimaroo - 20% More Kitty Added!: Eh, I have no shame. I've introduced people at my parties as "Hey everyone, this is John Doe, I found him on the Interwebs." I guess I've been socializing online for so many years that it no longer has a stigma to me.
@h3llc4t has a slow work day: I can just imagine bringing random people to friends' parties and saying, "hey, look who I found on the tubes!"
@h3llc4t has a slow work day: Well they kind of expect it from me, because Mr. Aroo is from the Australian interwebs.
@Laura Northrup: Southwest. I live just outside of Hartford.
@h3llc4t has a slow work day: My friends aren't big online socializers, so it'd be a little out of place with them. Oh well!
@calquist: In that case, maybe a photo of all of us could be posted on www.peopleofwalmart.com. That site just cracks me up.
@GitEmSteveDave_IsWaving: I feel like I should say something about this image, but nothing is coming to mind.
Hold it at Maloney & Porcelli, then all of the attendees can turn in "receipts" for compnay reimbursement [consumerist.com]
@GitEmSteveDave_IsWaving: Hahaha. I knew you'd use it someday! I will finally give you that heart click I've been keeping from you.
@JPropaganda: My mind can not even comprehend that.. No Walmarts?! I guess we will just need to relocate the meetup to Kansas City. I mean, who wouldn't want to visit a Missouri Wal-Mart?... :-\
@squinko - has 50 followers, what more do I need?!: That is so fantastic I can't even put it into words. Would someone get this commenter a star????
@humphrmi: Chicago is within driving range for me...and much more desirable a destination (to me) than NYC.
I also saw a hot dog joint on a documentary that sells some crazy milk shakes in the late night hours...I've been meaning to go get one.
@humphrmi: We could do meet ups all over the country and be newfangled everywhere. I say there should be a left coast one too. Los Angeles? Represent? Anyone?
@dfens42: Where are you coming from? I'm about the same distance from the city. I'm a little east of Hartford, CT.

I know I'll be there.
And please bring that sign. That'd be awesome.
