Get Your Piece Of The Dell Fraud Settlement

3526 views

If you live in New York and bought a Dell computer within the past few years, you may be eligible for compensation as part of the recent settlement between the company and the office of New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Forms are due by December 15, and are, according to AG Cuomo, "as simple a claim form as 100 lawyers could write." In other words, you'd better get started now if you want to get one in on time.
Inside: Video - Cuomo and plaintiff Cary Lou Canfield lay down the law at Consumers Union earlier this week, and more info on getting some bucks from Dell.

To get the rebate, you'll have to confirm you were a New York state resident when you bought the computer, and fill out a form on the AG's website attesting to one of three problems: that you were misled by Dell about a "no interest" financing plan; that you bought a Dell service contract that promised "at home" or "on site" service; or that you were inappropriately denied or never received an expected rebate.

And you'll also have to sign an affidavit stating you'll vote for him when he runs for governor. (Just kidding.)

Is it bad that I read the bracketed part as "DLL Hell"?

I owned a Dell 600m laptop a few years back and had a similar experience to the lady in the video. During the time that I owned it, the keyboard was bad out of the box and the hard drive failed. They actually had me do the replacements myself, which was rather surprising. I had absolutely no problem with it (and honestly preferred it to the alternative of sending it in, as this was a mail-in warranty) but I don't think I would have been comfortable with it had I not known a little bit about computers.

Not to mention that they completely screwed me on an issue I had with the screen, claiming that it was physical damage that I was at fault for. Never buying a Dell again.

Bought a Dell Dimension 3000 4 1/2 years ago... paid cash ... didn't buy the service contract ... using it right now and the only problem I've ever had was the DVD tray stopped opening about a year ago.

No Dell Hell for me. :)

I bought a dell computer with printer for my father about 4 years ago. One of the big selling points was the $400 mail-in-rebate that came with it. Knowing how company's like to say they never received the rebate, I sent it certified mail.

I waited a month and called them and they tried saying they never received it and to wait longer because they may still be processing it. Well here we are 4 years later and i still don't have it. I wish I had kept my receipt cause it looks like dell is gonna get to keep my rebate.
