Consumerist To Receive Consumer Education Leadership Award

2014 views

This Wednesday Meghann Marco and myself Ben Popken will accept the National Consumers League Consumer Education Leadership Award. We are honored and thankful.

In a statement, the NCL said, "This award is given to individuals who have provided outstanding leadership in consumer education. Your contributions as Co-Executive Editors at The Consumerist have given consumers a new voice — empowering them with the tools of the digital age. Through your work, you have shown how consumer journalism can evolve in a turbulent era for traditional news outlets."

It all goes down at the 27th Annual Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications lecture and awards reception, 3:30pm at The Riverside Church, New York City. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP at woodardj [@] ucc dot org.

I can't even count the number of times I've started a conversation with "I read last week on Consumerist..." Congratulations--the award is well-deserved!

Yeah, and given them new avenues to be even less productive while arguing over *|SOME MEME|*

You've been educating us??!! I thought this was the place to make snarky remarks about evil sellers and stupid consumers.

Wow, you guys are sneaky!

(oh yeah, congratulations, well deserved.)

user-pic

Congratulations first of all.. and second of all I'd like to let you know that the education yall provide is good and all that, but lets be honest here: It's the cats that kept me coming back.

Be sure to thank them too! All of the kitties in the pictures through the years have contributed a lot to this site!

I think Mr. Captain Duval Moneycat deserves a fresh bowl of Perfect Oatmeal today.

Mazel tov! This award is well deserved.

I'd just like to add my congratulations to those above (and surely below). This website manages to be both helpful and entertaining--most seem to be (at best) one or the other.

@Kimaroo - 20% More Kitty Added!: i think Cpt. Moneycat should be at the awards ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the consumerist. we all know "Ben Popken" & "Meg Marco" are just his pseudonyms.

user-pic

Way to go Ben and Meg! Here's wishing you continued success.

user-pic

Congrats guys, and thanks for all you do for us with this wonderful website!

user-pic

Muchos congratulativos on the NCL award. Hopefully, this will be webcast so we can see Meghann push Ben off the stage in her rush to grab it first, only to be thwarted by Moneycat's leaping from the skylight onto the podium...

/Ooh. I gots WAY too much free time...

user-pic

Hooray!
(not enough cats in this posting, but still, GREAT to see!)

user-pic

Who did you have to EECB to get this?

bad jokes aside really well deserved!

user-pic

An award for warning people about Wal-Mart, and/or Best Buy, and/or Target?

Anyway, good job.

@MooseOfReason: Way to rain on the parade needlessly.

user-pic

I know I've learned a great deal from this site over the years. Well deserved.

user-pic

Well deserved, Ben and Meg! Congrats and Huzzah!

user-pic

Woo Hoo, rock on with your bad self!!!!

user-pic

Congratulations and thanks! I've learned so much from this site.

user-pic

Congrats Ben, Meg, and Moneycat!

Congratulations Consumerist... this has been in my daily-reading (and by that, I mean hourly) for a couple years now and it's one of my favorite blogs. I think in some ways the blog has changed for the worse (occasionally becoming anti-commercialism as opposed to pro-consumerism), but then there are always the stellar articles on getting what you pay for and fighting scandals like Cash4Gold that redeem.

So, a hearty congrats is in order.

user-pic

@MichaelBrazell: yeah, no kidding on that daily reading thing. i actually stopped rss-feeding thru reader b/c it wasn't updating quickly enough.

/consumerist junkie 4 life.

user-pic

@ColoradoShark: Yesssss, it's all part of our dastardly plan.

user-pic

@PencilSharp: "Ben, Meg, imma let you finish, but Starbucks makes the GREATEST OATMEAL OF ALL TIME and should be receiving this consumer award."

user-pic

@Laura Northrup: So when is Consumerist going to hire one of the Baldwin brothers to film a mock Hulu commercial that announces your plan to take over the world, or internet, or government or whatever it is you guys really want to accomplish by brainwashing err educating us?

user-pic

FINALLY!!! It was about time. How long they thought they could go without recognizing what we all know?

user-pic

Fancy! Will you take turns in keeping the award? Who goes first?

user-pic

Congrats, you guys do make a difference.

user-pic

Congratulations! You deserve the recognition for your hard work.

user-pic

Congratulations!...ya'll are by far my favorite website. Thanks so much for keeping my family and I informed!

user-pic

Congratulations!

You're probably already on your way there but if you aren't you should consider wearing your lab coats to the event.
