What a douche bag bar!!!

user-pic

how about a sign that just says pretentious hipsters only...

user-pic

With such a strict dress code they could at least print it out, and paint their door.

user-pic

Geeee... wonder what kind of clientele they are trying to keep out...

Could've just wrote on a sheet of paper "If your skin is darker than this sign, go elsewhere." Same idea.

user-pic

I wonder what the requisite tightness for jeans is. How do they measure it? Percentage of denim-flesh contact per cm^2 of material? If I sever the hood from my sweatjacket, is it no longer a hoodie? If a own a fitted hat three sizes too big, is it still "fitted?" If I wear boots that are not manufacturer by Timberland, have I managed to avoid crossing the line?

user-pic

I have to say, I agree in part with this sign. If I owned a bar, I wouldn't want anyone wearing any sort of feces.

The rest is just a little bit silly.

user-pic

Couldn't they have reached the same goals with fewer words by saying, "No one from Jersey!"?

user-pic

@nucwin83: Yeah, they have a lot more of those a bit further south. A white chick wearing a tank and flip flops can get in.

Timberlands? GTFO

user-pic

@nucwin83: The Power & Light district bars in Kansas City have the same policy which has earned them the nickname "Power & White".

user-pic

They make jeans out of Baggies® brand food-storage bags?

user-pic

What's up with the "Fitted Hats" thing?

Like, adjustable ones are ok?
Any hat with a size on it not?
Beanies are all good?

I'm not sure I get that one...

user-pic

@Moonshadow101: It actually says "baggie" jeans, not "baggy" jeans, so I assume I'm fine as long as my jeans aren't made from tiny plastic sandwich bags.

user-pic

I've seen a nearly identical sign at a country bar I went to in Springfield, MO once.

user-pic

@FranktasticVoyage: Get thugged out, dawg!

user-pic

@nucwin83: Agreed or no blacks..

user-pic

@FranktasticVoyage: I guess if I wear my cowboy hat I wouldn't be allowed in.

user-pic

@G.O.B.: Come on!: Ohh, okay. I didn't know what a fitted hat was.

Now that I know, it seems even more certain that they're targeting a certain group of people. A racial group, even ...

user-pic

We ran into dress codes stricter than this in the European clubs all the time. There, flip-flops and shorts were often prohibited too.

user-pic

They could probably just slip "black people" in there and no one would notice.

user-pic

@Trai_Dep: People from Jersey wear a whole other set of bad clothes.

This could just read "if you were born in Brooklyn, you're not wanted here"

user-pic

They should send the Nation of Islam over there. Those guys dress sharp.

user-pic

@calquist: Jason Whitlock loves going to KC bars that discriminate against black attire so he can then write a column about a bar trying to keep him and his $500 outfit out while they'll let the white kid in a white t-shirt in.

user-pic

The name of the establishment is Hugs, but they don't seem very sweet and cuddly there

user-pic

@Foodie92: Most nightclubs have dress codes that don't allow flip flops or shorts

user-pic

@Moonshadow101:

If your jeans are already half way down your ass or you can take them off without unbuttoning them, they are baggy.

user-pic

I hear they also have one water fountain for people with tiny pants and one water fountain for people who don't get sunburns.

user-pic

We all know what each of those items are so let's not pretend we are idiots ...
You have so many bars everywhere that don't have these limitations that you can hang out at. why are you people complaining? Nude beaches have a clothing preference aswell (well, lack of clothing). are they racist aswell? A lot of restaurants have very specific dress codes and they don't care what kind of colour your skin is, they will throw out anyone for not behaving or dressing the proper way. If you are of a specific skin type that doesn't limit you to buying only things that are on that list. Jesus would life be boring and if that was true. It's a private establishment so respect their request. And if you don't you still have many more establishemnts to choose from.

user-pic

@G.O.B.: Come on!: I always thought a fitted hat was one without the adjustable strip in back. Maybe it means different things in different parts of the country?

user-pic

I think whoever wrote that sign needs a Hug.

user-pic

I would love for someone in the NYC area to organize a Facebook mob where hundreds of black people show up in suits and hundreds of white people show up in Vick jerseys and baggy pants. Management would freak the fuck out.

user-pic

No "fitted hats"? So you can wear all the trucker one-size fits all hats with the plastic snaps you want. "We don't want no fedoras around here."

user-pic

@FranktasticVoyage: how about one of those custom knitted "animal eating your head" ski caps from etsy?

user-pic

@jimcy: Yeah, this list looks very similar to the ones I've seen at most golf courses. The last one I went to required "tailored shorts". What exactly makes shorts tailored? I mean, haven't all shorts been tailored at one point in time, hence all the threads holding them together?

user-pic

@Ben Popken: Great. Now my boss is wondering why I am giggling like an idiot while working on documentation.

user-pic

@Ben Popken: can we get a taller water fountain for girls in low rise pants with whale tails? i don't want to have to see them bend down at all

user-pic

I think they should add "No Mom Jeans" to the list too. Just sayin'...

user-pic

I live in Alabama (a dot of blue in a sea of red, but whatever) and a new bar thingy just opened here, you know, with all overpriced stuff, and they have a dress code a bit stricter than this one. And it is engraved in wood. And on some hi-res posters.

user-pic

If anybody really wants to fuck this place up, call the fire department on them any Friday or Saturday after midnight. The place is a death trap!!

user-pic

The fact that everybody here seems to think the sign is about keeping black people out instead of hipster douchebags of any color makes me wonder, are people in New York that racist?

user-pic

Bamboo Bar in Philly has this same setup. I was there once, and had a t-shirt with a classy button-down opened over top of it. I had to button it up, as it was there right to. I can safely say I'm never going there again.

user-pic

I'm certain that white, "baggie" jersey tees from American Apparel are ok, though.

user-pic

Unlike the Continental which was featured in another Consumerist Article this place clearly posts a sign of their dress code and as long as they enforce it equally to everyone regardless of their skin color I don't see an issue with it.

The bar is hardly at fault or responsible for what people wear, regardless of what their race might be.

user-pic

@admiral_stabbin: Eugh, mom jeans. Seriously, put that on the list.

user-pic

A bar that keeps out people dressing like gangbangers? What a terrible thing. That's not racism, they just discriminate against thugs, chavs, and people dressed like them. That's terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrribllllllle.
