Baristas Flash Their Hoohas At The Grab-n-Go, Get Charged With Prostitution
We're not at the "full body latte" stage just yet, but Grab-n-Go Espresso in Everett, Washington has apparently taken us right up to that edge with their espresso stands where baristas show skin while serving coffee. Now five Grab-n-Go baristas have been charged "with multiple counts of prostitution and violating the city's adult entertainment ordinance."
You want to know exactly what they were doing, right? You're terrible.
Detectives say the women were charging up to $80 to strip down and flash customers while fixing lattes and mochas.
Investigators saw the women expose their crotches, lick whipped cream off their co-workers' private parts and pose naked for pictures inside the Grab-n-Go Espresso stand at 8015 Broadway, according to police reports obtained by The Herald on Wednesday.
Detectives also witnessed some of the women charging customers to touch their bare breasts and naked buttocks. Touching of that kind, for pay, falls under the city's definition of prostitution.

@LostAtoll: I had no problem with it up until the "charging to touch the baristas" bit. And then, it's only a problem because it's illegal. Everything else sounds like a strip joint. So maybe if they were serving beer instead of coffee it wouldn't have been a big deal?
That's a pretty weak definition of prostitution...merely touching a booby?
I dunno...if you have women doing something of their own free will, and someone else willing to pay money for it (like flashing boobs with coffee)...I fail to see the need for government interference, unless children were involved.
@Saboth: It's the paying for acts that constitutes as such. It was solicitation of acts for pay. This isn't one of those "well, if it doesn't hurt anyone" kind of things...it's illegal, and they violated the law. It's not like this is some newfangled law.
@SonicMan:
We don't have time for a latte, I thought you needed to go to the time machine...duh
The world is now one step closer to a gentleman's starbucks. Thank you Grab-n-go, thank you
@pecan 3.14159265: It's definitely not just you. That was actually my immediate reaction. Prostitution? Meh. Hot coffee and bare breasts? Egads!
Also, I love that the "investigation" took two whole months. You know somebody was looking forward to going to work every day.
"They will continue to investigate any new complaints about prostitution at espresso stands or any location in the city" Oh I'm sure they will.
@G.O.B.: Come on!: Barista isn't the same as Frugalista, though. Barista is an actual Italian word meaning a person who works at a bar, serving coffee. [en.wikipedia.org]
@utensil42: I think if they had marketed themselves as such, it would still be illegal. Remember in um, gentlemen's clubs, it's still illegal to touch and solicit. It's not the place or the context that makes a difference - it's just illegal.
@pecan 3.14159265: That was my point though. Other than the touching, how is this different from a strip club?
@bonzombiekitty: in a plastic cup!
I ended almost everthing with "as per usual" for nearly a year because of that man. Drove my 7th grade classmates bonkers.
@pecan 3.14159265: You aren't the only one! I did a little coffee slinging in college. Hot splashes weren't frequent, but they are not something I'll ever forget.
@utensil42: It's not different, but like you said, it wouldn't be quite as big of an issue if they were selling beer, since that not only requires a license but requires patrons to be of a certain age. Coffee shops are open to pretty much all ages. Without knowing what their storefront looked like, it might be easy to walk in, thinking you're just trying a shop you haven't been to before. But they also might not have been allowed to advertise the nature of their business given city zoning laws and such. Like how you can't just put a dance club in a neighborhood, whether it's good business or not. Zoning laws say you can't.
@Smashville_makes his own comments at home: She wants them for herself. Not for why we guys want boobies.
@katstermonster: I almost spit out water when I read your comment. Now i am intruged. also, because of the very same reason, I probably wont read it at work.
@Saboth: I don't disagree with the law. I don't think it should be legalized, but I also don't think certain establishments should be banned just because - but there's a place for them, and if this coffee shop was not very clear on what you were about to see upon entering, yes, it should be shut down because then it poses a public indecency issue. Even if it was very clear, like other adult establishments, it should have personnel out front to make sure 10 year olds aren't going into it.
