Start Your Christmas Shopping In August At This Colorado Pawn Shop
This sign spotted outside of a pawn shop in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, raises all kinds of questions. Such as: now what for Christmas? Now hiring for Christmas? Now buying artificial conifers for Christmas? Now cleaning out our warehouses for Christmas? We need more clarification, EZ Pawn.
UPDATE: Apparently the word "layaway" was, at some point, on this sign, but wasn't when Robin took this photograph. That makes more sense in concept, at least, but is still obnoxiously early for Christmas.
And, as tipster Robin muses, "Nothing says holiday cheer like Christmas shopping at a pawn shop in the middle of August!" Well, tough economic times call for new traditions.

@tawni_now in olive oil flavor: Mr. Pi and I can't stop watching that show. It's amazing what kind of stuff people bring in, like the hippie with the Native American totem.
Anyone else notices the light/white parts under the word "Christmas", like they were erased, and also how the "S" at the end is somehow clipping the "A", even though the background on those letters is clear to let the light shine through? Plus, the "S" looks almost like an exact copy of the other "S", like it was cloned?
But if it is real, I think it's saying "Pawn Now, For Christmas", meaning pawn your stuff now so you'll get a good prices before everyone else comes in, and the prices drop due to low demand.
@GitEmSteveDave_SameGreatTaste!: And yes, come opening time in their time zone, I'm calling them. I need to in case anyone uses the S-word.
@GitEmSteveDave_SameGreatTaste!: Maybe they had another slogan up for a very long time and recently changed it, leaving the strange coloration where the old letters were? The tip of the "A" might also have cracked off. I dunno, I can't tell by the pixels and haven't done quite a few shoops in my time.
@GitEmSteveDave_SameGreatTaste!: Also looks like the N was modified, though I can't be sure (see how its not the same size as the other letters widthwise) It might say Snow for christmas *somethign something*
@treimel:
If you (and everybody else) refuses buy it, the pawnshop will stop offering money for the item, which means the person that needed the cash is in an even worse situation.
Or, at the extreme end of the spectrum, the shop goes out of business...
@shepd:
I think that he was saying that he would gladly pay the $10 that the shop is asking for the ratchet. Not that he wouldn't buy it.
I was saying that, but Shepd was also right that I'd like to feel better about it--and, hey, now I do!
@Oranges w/ Cheese misses her boyfriend who's in michigan: They should be open soon if they are 3 hours behind us EST people.
@GitEmSteveDave_♥'sRenegadeIrishman: OK, just called the pawn shop, which is at [maps.google.com] . They said that in the last month, the sign read "Layaway now for Christmas". Just thought I'd give everyone the headsup.
@GitEmSteveDave_♥'sRenegadeIrishman: Beat me to the punch. That was the first thing that came to mind, but why would you want to start paying interest now?
One thing about pawn shops...they're a great place to buy musical instruments.
@GitEmSteveDave_♥'sRenegadeIrishman: I see what you're saying but I don't know why someone would 'shop something to be so nonsensical. Wouldn't they have shopped a complete sentence?
@treimel: It's somebody else's misery in more ways than one . I always associate pawn shops with theft . I know it's not always true but I just can't help but think alot of those tools among other things were ' reappropiated involuntarily ' .
Actually now I would have less compunction about buying from a pawn shop being unfortunetly you know the source . But if your at the point your selling it you don't need it that much .
@ElizabethD: If you haven't seen it, you are missing out! I'm floored at some of the items that come in (the totem Pi mentioned was one of the strangest ones) and also at the prices some people think they're going to get for their stuff. I don't know if you can see it on Fancast or any other websites though, if you don't have the History Channel.

Hmmm, it looks like they accidentally their sign.
I've been thinking it's weird that Halloween stores have been popping up all over the place all month, but I guess it is so they can be out before October to make room for the holiday stores.
