Maytag Recalls Potentially Fire-starting Fridges
The Maytag Repairman may not get much work, but his colleague over in recalls is keeping plenty busy these days, because the company is recalling 46,000 fridges due to an electrical failure that may start fires.
The Associated Press reports the recall follows Maytag's recall of 1.6 million other refrigerators back in March. The AP reports:
The refrigerators in question are side-by-side and top freezer refrigerators made in black, bisque, white and stainless steel. They cost between $350 and $1,600 and were sold from September 2000 to May 2004.
Frightening stuff, to be sure. Not quite as scary as the time Cherie from "Punky Brewster" got locked in the fridge, but close. Darn close.
Those who have been injured by rogue refrigerators are encouraged to tell this link all about it.

@Verucalise(wantsherfigureback): Just make sure you have full replacement value insurance. Worth every penny.
@aloria: I can't see the comment boxes. It all shows up as just text with names. Normally I can see the avatars, though. When I want to reply I just have to move my cursor to where I approximate the "reply" button is and wait for my arrow to turn into a hand.
@Donathius: That's pretty much the only thing I remember from Punky Brewster. Of course I didn't watch it much.
@pecan 3.14159265: Same here. I have to mouse around until my arrow turns into a little hand and hope what I am clicking on is the reply button. Gah.
@OMG! SP00N: I'm hung like planet pluto, hard to see by the naked eye, but if I crash into uranus....
Ok. This comment took a wrong turn somewhere.
I mean, BAD Maytag. Very bad! (hitting with newspaper)
This happened with a Maytag/Whirlpool dishwasher I had. Never had a problem with it, it never caught fire. They had a "recall" on a number of them to replace a part due to corrosion. When they got to me, they'd run out of the part and weren't making any more. They replaced the whole dishwasher with a new one.
@Novaload Welcomes the Returning Jezuits !: I have one. They sent me a letter. I just haven't followed up because I'm going to have to take a day off from work to deal with it.
@aloria: I was wondering the same thing.. about the light that is.. I'm not having any troubles seeing anything.. I think my work doesn't have any internet restrictions. (We're a 2 person company and we share an office.. so.. it's not like I'm gonna look at naughty stuff. lol.)
@Verucalise(wantsherfigureback): Please don't stick it where the sun don't shine.
Yeah Matag, get with the program!
@Verucalise(wantsherfigureback): Lolz! I sang that little ditty a couple weeks ago in response to the wildfires that were burning here in California! I soon realized I was showing my age with such a dated reference... :(
They say this is "more fridges"; I had mine serviced as part of the initial recall already. (Checks.) Yup.
Irony department take note: The fault is in the module which contains the thermal safety device, which cuts power to the motor if the compressor is overheating.
It's a fast service call; they should be well-practised by now, and it should take the technician about 10-20 minutes.

....we don't need no water, let the mother f*cker burn.
burn, mother f*cker. burn.
