Dave Carroll Launches Second "United Breaks Guitars" Song And Video
Musician Dave Carroll hit the jackpot with his first song, "United Breaks Guitars," last month. The song, the video, and the subsequent media coverage formed a perfect anti-ad for United's poor handling of customer property. Now he's released the second of his planned three-song cycle and this one has more of a "we could have had something together" feel to it. Like any sequel, it's about 600 times more elaborate. We'll always love "United Breaks Guitars" most of all, but it's great to see Carroll continue his one-man shaming of an airline for not doing the right thing when it had the chance.

I can't wait for #3!
United bumped a friend of mine out of her business class seat into coach a couple of years ago, so I was already not keen on them.
So after watching #1, when I went to book our summer vacation flights and United was the only airline that covered the entire trip... I split the $1500 between Alaska and Air Canada. And every time I passed a United check-in, I wished I had a guitar to strum Dave's tune on.
@Marshfield: I also liked the part around the 2:00 mark where United's CEO makes an appearance surrounded by bodyguards--perfectly captures the way some companies do anything they can to prevent customers from talking to someone in a company who can make a real decision about a problem.
@Chris Walters: That may have been the worst sentence I've ever written as far as comprehension goes. I apologize.
Me like 2 minute mark. Makes fun of CEOs.
@Herbz: I don't think that was the point - they screwed him over. He wants to return the favor. Justice plain and simple. Think Charles Bronson in Death Wish and United is Jeff Goldblum...but it's all set to music.
When does the movie come out?
FIRST ACT
United breaks guitar
SECOND ACT
Dave falls in love with Ms. Irlwig, but loses her after he compromises himself to appear in United commercial
THIRD ACT
Dave belatedly realizes that what he really learned was that guitars can be fixed, but broken hearts can't.
FINALE
Dave proposes and marries Ms. Irlwig. As they are departing on the plane for their honeymoon, baggage handlers from beginning of film are seen misrouting their luggage to wrong country.
@Duckula22: I just love to listen to the opinions of people who have never seen the video.
It's like "I have never tasted pizza and it tastes terrible."
@Rachacha: I think United should publicly offer Dave free air fare for life. Now.
All companies can make mistakes but only some companies actually try to remedy those mistakes. United missed its chance to remedy this mistake with a few thousand dollars quite a long time ago.
If they offered Dave free air fare for life, a true gesture of sympathy on their part, I would actually have a bit of respect for a company which I currently have none for.
I would expect Dave to turn them down but the gesture alone would be a very humbling act IMO.
@Duckula22: "Thumbs down without even having heard the song."
well that says all we need to know....
@DaveDidNotPay: He'd probably turn them down for fear of losing even more luggage to the crappy third-party luggage handlers they hire.
@Duckula22: Hold on, there. Dave announced a trilogy when he released the first song. For the last one, I'm hoping the three amigos are dressed as Samurai, and Ms. Irwig again has a role. Playing bass.
Dude, this isn't even a sequel, its all part of what he originally promised, he said he'd make 3 songs. So if he makes the 3 songs then makes another that would be the sequel. Probably should have read the original article.
@West Coast Secessionist: They didn't make an offer until after his first song gained so much media attention.
@Duckula22: You know what I'd like to see? A United Breaks Guitars prequel. Like how they were rude at the ticket counter and charged him an extra fee to check the guitar and stuff.
@West Coast Secessionist: Considering they didn't make the offer until over a year later, AFTER the negative publicity, I don't think he's under any obligation to accept their BS insincere apology. Screw them, and bonus points for getting famous doing it!
@diasdiem:
Yeah and one wehn he was eating breakfast and brushing his teeth in the morning, that would be sweeeet.
@DaveDidNotPay: I sincerely doubt that he would accept the offer. After the first video, United offered to pay for the guitar, Dave refused and requested that they donate the money to charity.
+ Watch video
United apparently donated $3000 to charity (but in doing so, probably could not have Dave sign an agreement to remove the video, or to not publish any additional videos) [www.sfgate.com]
The net result is Dave is able to stick it to United...he was able to get them to donate $3000, he can keep his video online, and still post additional videos to add further negative publicity to United, ad as well, assist him i his own self promotion.
@HalOfBorg: Arctic wolves howling Elvis medleys!
(Sure their voices suck, but the pompadours make up for it)
@diasdiem: After this trilogy he could make one that takes place well before the first one, but it'll start another trilogy. Like, these could be episodes 4, 5 and 6, and he could make 1, 2 and 3 later.

I was invited to the premiere!
