Every once in a while, this website has some good deals, too. Great running watch yesterday for $9.99 +5s/h... just FYI! I found the link to the watch sale on dealnews. [www.1saleaday.com]

Does anyone know if that rice cooker would be good for making smaller "batches" of rice, like 1-2 cups?

eForCity: [iPod Accessories] Universal Cassette Adapter for 25 cents

Deal expired. [sadtrombone.com]

@bornonbord: But I guess $4.00 is still a deal?

@600Followers_GitEmSteveDave: I'm pretty sure most rice cookers can cook different amounts of rice. It should come with instructions on how to do varying quantities.

@600Followers_GitEmSteveDave: An 8-cup rice cooker is meant to cook from two to eight 6-ounce rice "cups". One cup (regular 8-ounce or rice 6-ounce cup) would be too small in this cooker, unless you were combining it with other ingredients and cooking them together (which I often do in mine to make a sort of rice pilaf or casserole).

That's normal price for the Bose speakers at Sam's Club. No need to hurry on that deal. Also notice they're the older design of these speakers. New one's purchased elsewhere have a different appearance.

That Mr. Clean Carwash is garbage. I bought it one time because I had a store credit at Shucks. The filter has to be replaced after 3-4 uses (says right on the box) and it doesn't work anything like it's advertised. Worst $30 in store credit spent, ever.

@speedwell, avatar of snark: So in essence, get a GF or eat more rice, and I can get this cooker?

user-pic

@600Followers_GitEmSteveDave: (blush) You're very sweet, but I already have a rice cooker, and even worse, I'm low-carbing :)

No, but seriously, you can make good meals in this thing. It cooks until the contents dry off enough for the temperature to rise a certain amount over the boiling point of water. That means that you can cook anything in liquid, or make any sort of stew, boiled chicken, or even boiled eggs, if you set a timer or check it from time to time.

I have a good recipe for Scots chicken and leek soup (cockie-leekie) that I made successfully in a one-setting rice cooker like this. It worked better in my Zojirushi fuzzy-logic machine, but that one cost twenty times the price of this one.

@600Followers_GitEmSteveDave: Or cook 2 cups of rice, throw whatever you don't eat that day into a tupperware and into the fridge. That way you have rice for TWO days.

@WarOperationPlanResponse_GitEmSteveDave:

THAT rice cooker would not be good for cooking ANY amount of rice.

You want the type with a hinged lid that actually gets a bit of a seal to it. The ones with the set-on glass lid, particularly the ones without non-stick pots, are worthless.
