Amazing Deal At Office Depot

5420 views

While shopping at Office Depot recently, Dave snapped this shot of a sale on an 8-pack of washable markers. The regular price is $3, but knock off the INSTANT SAVINGS of $.01 and you're left with the absolutely smokin' deal of $2.99.

Hey, at least the savings is instant and they don't make you send out a rebate form to bask in the frugality.

Reminds me of the "Over $10 Off" item I saw at ToysЯUs.

The item was like $29.99 and being sold for $19.98.

A total savings of $10.01.

The key to this deal has got to be volume, right? I mean it's buy 300, get 1 free? How can you lose?

user-pic

Yup, frugal shopping requires the ability to do math.

user-pic

@AreYouConfusedYet?HowAboutNow?: Well, I am confused.

Cuz that's a good deal.

This is just...stupid.

@kaceetheconsumer: I'm frugal, but I am also kinda bad at math.

That's why I love UNIT PRICES! They do the math for me!

Some people (*raises hand*) look for the sale signs like a zombie. Could have been worse -- rebate coupon

I think the key is the instant savings.

Like...you're sitting there in line expecting to pay $3.00...but then...BOOM...here's Abe Lincoln on a shiny piece of copper, bitch!

And then you realize, it doesn't really work that way because most places round the sales tax, so you'll still end up paying the exact amount you would have paid on a $3 item...but man...for that instant when you had savings...yeah...that was great.

@JustinSane07: I think he's complaining about the way the sale was marketed, making it look like they had better deals than they actually had. Sure, it's a good deal, but not as good as they advertised.

user-pic

Don't you get it. It's $2 now! Who cares about the pennies.

user-pic

@GuinevereRucker: As long as they match units, yeah. Actually I haven't seen stores be bad about this recently, but 10 years ago I'd see different units and then have to do the math between them, and having just moved to the US from Canada and not knowing how many ounces in a pound was hard!

I do still see some unit prices as the entire package. Those are very unhelpful!

user-pic

@joshua70448: Actually, it's exactly as good as advertised and no more.

user-pic

Nobody else pointed out that this is really hard to read. So I will. Its really hard to read.

@AreYouConfusedYet?HowAboutNow?:

I saw a stroller at Babies R Us marked with a "CLEARANCE" price of $139.98. Original price: $139.99. I have a photo to prove it.

@kaceetheconsumer: lowe's foods near me tends to put the store brand in one unit and the name brand in a different unit so that if you don't have a calculator [or are good at math] and happen to know the conversion rate, then you have no idea whether you are getting a good deal

user-pic

@catastrophegirl: You can bet that's deliberate, and slightly evil.
