Target Is Somewhat Liberal When It Comes To "Kids" Programming
Hey, where was Target back in the day when our parents were looking for a babysitter? The one we had wouldn't let us watch anything cool. Certainly not anything with a huge "CENSORED" sticker on the front of it.
Tell us, is there anything actually raunchy on that Family Guy box, or are they just teasing?

@supercereal: yeah everyone is just being complacent about that but frankly im outraged and offended by this.
@bigd7387: If that were the case, it would still be Target's fault. Guess what, family guy, south park, aqua teen hunger force, robot chicken, etc., is not family programming. It is animated adult programming.
The point, however, is moot. As someone said above , it's a humorous trick of the camera angle.
@WiglyWorm: Edit upon closer observation I retract my second paragraph. It looked at first glance to me that the sign was farther back and hanging from the ceiling. Looking at it closer it does appear to be part of the same stand as these shows... yeah, that's horrible placement, or else someone forgot to change their signage.
@Crissy Thompson: OK, Looking even closer AGAIN, I do think this is an overhead sign. Look how far past the shelf edges it goes. So, back to my original comment of : camera angle.
@MostlyHarmless: It's set in a town that's full of geniuses, all of whom do top secret research for DARPA. I enjoy it, it doesn't take itself too seriously.
@Crissy Thompson: It's actually a shelf-top sign. I used to work this department at Target... Every couple weeks or so the stuff on these endcaps changes out, but sometimes we wouldn't get the new signing in on time. There a generic blank grey sign that we'd use in that case, but it's something that's easy to overlook.
Their new signing probably got shipped late. I'm guessing they just set this display up, since the music/movie section of Target usually has all the price labels together on a white strip (they come preprinted from corporate). If they are late coming in, stores can print their own labels on a laser printer and use the those instead.
Also, random detail: They're supposed to scan the barcode on the sign whenever they set up something new. Their PDA systems will actually tell them what display or aisle the sign should be on, and it'll even say if the sign is no longer needed and can be tossed. If you look closely, you can see the small barcode on the very bottom-right of the "kids & family movies" sign.
So, yeah, someone just wasn't paying attention to detail and missed the sign.
@maddypilar:
Obviously Target doesn't actually think those are kids' titles. Someone forgot to change the sign.
@MostlyHarmless: A regular Joe sheriff has to fix the mistakes of a bunch of super geniuses in a small town funded by the government. I guess they didn't get the memo about messing with Super Science.
I'm torn on what I should do about this:
1. Be outraged that a heartless, faceless, greedy Big Box corporation is intentionally exposing innocent children to unspeakable profanity and debauchery on these DVDs.
2. Decry the Nazis at Target for censoring an honest art form and the free expression thereof.
3. Immediately run to Target and purchase these Family Guy DVDs because they must be bursting at the seams with mad-cap adult hilarity for some government/corporate entity to take such an extreme measure to shield me from it.
I think I'll do nothing.
@MostlyHarmless: I really enjoy the show. I'll agree with kbrook. It doesn't take itself TOO seriously. I started with watching just one episode. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the new episodes coming to SciFi soon!
She's saying the sign is in the aisle, not on the end. It's a trick of angle. In other words, the camera man tried to dupe us, and seems to have succeeded in some cases.
If it wasn't for the OC and Eureka box sets, I would've assumed that the idiot stocking the shelves automatically thought that because the show was animated, it should be in the kids section. Happens all the time with anime. Once, I saw an Evangelion DVD in the kids section at Best Buy (this was years ago, before BB had an anime section). That is definitely a way to screw up a kid's childhood.
@Mykie Gunderson: Had it been a box set of Enterprise, I would have been tempted to agree with them...but DS9? That's a little uncalled for.
I'm the one who sent this in.
They cropped the image, but if you look over to the left on the original, you see a bunch of kid's movies in that aisle and that section is labeled such as the sign.
But nonetheless it's still funny to see a big sign entitled "Kids' and Family Collections" and on the end cap right below it DVD box sets of South Park & Family Guy.
I might go back to the store over lunch tomorrow and confirm this. I'm inclined to believe you though.
@Crissy Thompson: Good for you, I wouldn't let my kids watch those either (you know, if I was a parent).
@chutch: God, who hasn't been? Mid season finale ended last September. Waiting until July is a bit much.
I work at this Target, checked Consumerist on my lunch hour on my phone, told my buddy sitting next to me. He left, and came back with a picture of it on his phone that he took. I went and checked, this was in the MMB department of my Target. Talk about a face palm moment.
It was a kids endcap, but that particular one doesn't change out on a regular basis. They just put discontinued stuff there, without looking at the header. I am so going to give the Specialist who runs it so much crap tomorrow.
@supercereal: No, no. They misplaced the decimal again. It's supposed to be $1,170.00, tho it's on ebay for $1.17...
Speaking of photos in Tarbutt stores:
"Big Brother" is watching you in Tarbutt Stores!
Former employee sues Target
A former security guard at the Target store in Fresno, CA has filed a lawsuit that says the store's security manager used security cameras to zoom in on female customers and employees inappropriately.
Michelle Brown, who worked at Target from June 2006 until April this year, says she was fired from her job after reporting the manager's behavior to his supervisors. Brown says she was also discriminated against because she is a woman and is black. Brown's lawsuit, which was filed July 1st in Fresno County Superior Court, says security manager Chad McPherson used the security cameras for voyeuristic purposes rather than for keeping the store's customers safe and merchandise secure.
"McPherson would also use the security camera system to zoom in on women customers and other Target Corporation employees for extended periods of time while crudely zooming in on the customers' breasts and buttocks," the lawsuit says.

and a lot of other info on this consumer unfriendly chain, this is the blog that Tarbutt could not close down despite a 23 month Federal Court Suit (dismissed last year).
Note how the font and color scheme used are the exact same. This is because this is how McFarlane decided to sell it.
Fake Censoring is Fake.
@Crissy Thompson: That sign is clearly affixed to the rack in question. It may actually refer to the rack behind it, as this is an end-cap, but it would be a normal assumption that things below this sign are supposed to be family-friendly, when that is definitely not what has been stocked on that shelf!
I have a similar problem whenever I walk in to our local blockbuster (I prefer the library for movies, but they don't always have what we want to watch) and find the "Dead Space: Downfall" animated DVD in the Children's section, floating dismembered arm on the cover and all! Someone at that store really needs to figure out that just because something is animated doesn't mean that it should go in the Kid's section! (It's a horror title)
@chutch: Don't you mean SyFy? lol
Seriously though, what's up with the new name? It's almost like they are trying to be confusing.
Really I let my son watch family guy all day, it's a great show with some toilet humor, big deal. Disney movies have the same amount of toilet humor they just assume kids won't get it. Also anyone own an original 'little mermaid' VHS, I do guess what's on the back of it? (For those of you who don't know, it makes your censorship cry on the inside)
@Jeff Oster: And most magazines intened for the 18+ audience do the same type of thing, so that a 16 year-old can stock them on the shelves without creating a lawsuit.
And you don't expect to find those magazines in the 'Kids and Family' section of the magzine rack, now do you?

generally they have naked Peter Griffin on them - coming out of a cake on the one I bought my girlfriend a while back.
