Ship Metal Hardware To Your House For Only $99,999

6125 views

Wesley ordered some zinc-plated drawer slides from Gliderite.com. The hardware cost $25, and the shipping charge was $99,999. Either this is a database error, or Gliderite sends a Bentley full of spokesmodels to hand-deliver everything they sell.

Well I guess since they couldn't sell on ebay anymore they had to find someplace to run that old scam...

user-pic

These were delivered to the moon, by hand.

user-pic

I assume they set it up to charge that as a test - almost all credit cards won't accept a charge that high.

Also, it appears it was ten, not a dozen.

user-pic

Maybe it's just a standard amount set (like 12:00 on a clock when it's reset) and then it changes upon entering your ZIP Code

unless the Zip Code was already entered then you must live on the Moon, How much does it cost to launch the Space Shuttle or a Satellite?

user-pic

Wesley better check his cart. I think he accidentally added a Hubbel space telescope to it.

user-pic

For kicks, I went through. I screencapped that sucker, and sure enough, it's still wanting a nice hundred thousand to give me the same item.

@AppleAlex: Slightly more than 100 Grand.

user-pic

@coren:
It's the depleted ultronium core, you see. It's mass is five hundred times as great as lead. Makes it a real pain to ship.

user-pic

@H3ion: I want to know what carrier they're using. That's an amazing rate to ship to the moon.

user-pic

Come on, cut them slack, it's only an estimate!

user-pic

So what's the problem? As long as they don't ship a small item in a huge box, I don't see anything wrong here.

user-pic

I'd like this overnighted, please.

user-pic

That sounds like the same kind of estimation they use to figure out my gas bill.

user-pic

@H3ion: They make up for it with volume.

user-pic

@Jeff_McAwes0me: Could I borrow your Space Shuttle sometime? Mine costs about $59,900,000 more to launch than yours.

user-pic

One good thing is you can get "Standard" "Two Day" and "Next Day" shipping for the same price ($99,999.00). Only a fool would pick "Standard".

user-pic

See, that is what happens if you don't enter your zip code to get an accurate shipping charge.

user-pic

I'd bet that the database is set up to calculate a shipping charge only if you enter your zip code correctly and it recognizes the code. If it doesn't recognize the code of ir you don't enter one, it's probably designed to output $99,999. Which is sort of silly, but probably better than underestimating shipping and then having to charge more later.

user-pic

Even if a proper zip is entered. Still shows the crazy shipping costs. It still shows unusual shipping, after updating the zip dataset.
All the information in the drop down. Is set to the same price also. Again, even after updating the dataset.

user-pic

@Carso:
Nope. It's also $99,999 for 2 day and Next day, when you enter a real zip code.

user-pic

Is that $25.60 for 10 pair of full extension drawer slides? That's a good deal

user-pic

@mgy: ooooo...that's a little extra

user-pic

@Cant_stop_the_rock: Only if they let you drive to the warehouse and pick it up yourself.

user-pic

The drawer slides are actually hand-delivered by a A-List celebrity of your choice on a Gold-plated Zinc tray!!

user-pic

It show up properly when I input a shipping address.

@Grodoro: Your Space Shuttle is a bargain compared to NASA at $450 million per mission.
[www.nasa.gov]

Of course a satellite launch on an expendable rocket are less at $50 million and up depending on payload weight and who's launching it.

Regardless $99,999.00 isn't an "astronomic" amount for shipping.

user-pic

@pmr12002:
For me as well, including the faster options.

user-pic

They pull you in with their low prices and then get you with the shipping!

user-pic

@AppleAlex:

It costs about $10,000 per pound to get the shuttle into space.
Each shuttle costs about $450 million to launch.

It updates once zipcode is entered.
